Flamengo confirm Balotelli interest

Flamengo have confirmed their interest in signing Italy striker Mario Balotelli. “He’s a great player and we’ve been in contact.”

Gianluca Di Marzio reported earlier that Balotelli was in talks with Flamengo over a surprise move to the Brazilian side.

When asked about the free agent, the club’s President Rodolfo Landim told UOL: “He’s a great player and we’ve been in contact.

Balotelli in Flamengo talks

Italy striker Mario Balotelli is in talks with Flamengo over a surprise move to the Brazilian side.

Balotelli is currently a free agent after being released by Olympique Marseille and had been linked with moves back to Serie A.

However, Gianluca Di Marzio reports negotiations are ongoing to take the 28-year-old to Flamengo.

The Rubro-Negro already have Inter forward Gabriel Barbosa and former Roma midfielder Gerson on their books.

'Duarte a great deal for Milan'

Former Milan and Brazil goalkeeper Dida believes the Rossoneri have pulled off a ‘great deal’ for Flamengo defender Leo Duarte.

Little is known about Duarte outside his native Brazil, but Milan are paying a reported €11m for the 23-year-old, who was also of interest to Roma and Bayer Leverkusen.

“He’ll have to adapt to Italian football, but he’s a good defender who did very well last season,” Dida told Gazzetta dello Sport.

Gabigol drops Inter hint

Gabriel Barbosa has hinted that he could return to Inter. “I have a contract for two more years, my Flamengo loan lasts until the end of this year...”

Gabigol has rediscovered the form that earned him a €29.5m transfer to Inter in 2016, bagging a brace in Flamengo’s 2-0 Copa Libertadores win against Emelec last time out.

“The affection of the fans was very nice,” the forward said after the game.

'Roma & Leverkusen beaten to Duarte'

Milan reportedly beat Roma and Bayer Leverkusen to the signing of Flamengo defender Leo Duarte.

Duarte completed his Milan medical on Thursday morning and will now sign a five-year contract, Gazzetta dello Sport’s Nicolo Schira writing he will earn €1.2m a season with the Rossoneri.

Schira also corroborates Serginho’s revelation that the Diavolo fought off competition from Roma to the 23-year-old, while adding Leverkusen were also disappointed.

Milan: Leao & Duarte by tomorrow

Rafael Leao is all-but-a-Milan player after arriving to sign his contract, while Leo Duarte will complete his transfer tomorrow.

Leao passed his medical on Wednesday morning and was then present at the club’s offices to formalise his €30m-plus-bonuses move from Lille.

The striker, 21, has agreed a five-year deal with the Rossoneri.

Duarte, meanwhile, underwent the first part of his medical in the afternoon and will perform a second round of tests on Thursday.

'Duarte can be Milan's new Silva'

Former Milan winger Serginho has backed Flamengo defender Leo Duarte to have a similar impact on the Rossoneri to Thiago Silva.

Duarte landed at Milan Malpensa airport on Wednesday afternoon, and there to greet him was Serginho – a fellow Brazilian who won a Scudetto and two Champions Leagues with the Diavolo between 1999 and 2008.

“He’s a player with great character, he’s only 23 years old but he’s already played many games for Flamengo,” the 48-year-old told Milan News.

Rafael Leao lands for Milan

Lille striker Rafael Leao has arrived in Italy and is set to undergo his Milan medical tomorrow in a €30m deal.

The 20-year-old Portuguese talent touched down at Malpensa Airport in Milan this morning, flying in from Lisbon.

He is expected to have his fitness tests on Wednesday morning, then sign a contract to June 2024.

Milan have agreed to purchase Leao from Lille in exchange for €30m cash plus defender Tiago Djalo, who is valued at €5m.

Leao and Duarte fly in for Milan

Lille striker Rafael Leao and Flamengo defender Leo Duarte are expected in Italy for a Milan medical tomorrow, deals worth a total €41m.

According to Sky Sport Italia and MilanNews, the Portuguese forward and Brazilian defender will fly out on Tuesday and likely undergo the medical tests on Wednesday morning.

Leao scored eight goals in Ligue 1 with Lille last season.

The asking price had been €50m, but agent Jorge Mendes helped smooth over the differences to agree a €30m deal.
