Thigh injury for Alexis Sanchez

Alexis Sanchez has been diagnosed with a thigh injury and is expected to miss the Europa League semi-final between Inter and Shakhtar Donetsk.

That clash is due to take place on Monday evening as part of the Final Eight tournament in Germany.

A statement from the club confirmed a slight strain of the hamstring in his right leg.

His condition will continue to be evaluated over the next few days.

It is unlikely the Chile international will recover in time for the semi-final.

Bondar: 'Shakhtar can beat anyone'

Fonseca: 'Two plus Mkhitaryan'

Paulo Fonseca has confirmed that he would like Roma to sign two of his former Shakhtar Donetsk stars and Henrikh Mkhitaryan on a permanent basis.

Several members of Shakhtar’s squad have been linked with following Fonseca to Roma in recent months, and the coach made no secret of his desire to bring in at least one of them.

“I know the skills of the Shakhtar players very well. They could play for the best European teams,” he told Ukrainian show Great Football.

Roma target Shakhtar trio?

Roma have reportedly set their sights on securing Shakhtar Donetsk trio Viktor Kovalenko, Marcos Antonio and Tete for next season.

Roma boss Paulo Fonseca worked with the trio at Shakhtar, where he won domestic doubles in each of his three seasons between 2016 and 2019.

Now, Gazzetta dello Sport claims Fonseca would like to work with them at Roma.

Kovalenko, 24, is a central midfielder with 25 caps for Ukraine. He can also play as an attacking midfielder, although he has managed just six league starts to date this season.

Celades: 'Atalanta very physical'

Valencia coach Albert Celades knows Atalanta will be difficult opponents when they meet in the Champions League in February. “They are a very physical team.”

La Dea are in the Round of 16 in their debut season, and were drawn against the Spanish side.

Celades was talking to the official UEFA website and believes his side won’t have it easy against the Bergamo outfit.

Percassi: 'I cried alone'

Atalanta President Antonio Percassi admitted he “cried alone” after the famous 3-0 win over Shakhtar Donetsk on Wednesday.

The Dea qualified for the last 16 of the Champions League after their victory in Ukraine, and the patron confessed he had to watch the match on his own.

“I had decided to stay at home, where I could be alone,” he told the Gazzetta dello Sport.

“I preferred it this way: I wanted to enjoy it more, I wanted to be able to despair or cry for happiness. And I cried alone.

VIDEO: Atalanta fans party!

Thousands of Atalanta fans waited until the early hours of Thursday morning to celebrate their team’s dramatic Champions League exploits.

Atalanta had lost their first three group games but won 3-0 at Shakhtar Donetsk in Ukraine last night to miraculously reach the last 16.

With that in mind, supporters in their droves flocked to Orio al Serio airport in Bergamo in the early hours, despite the sleet and cold weather, to greet their triumphant team.

De Roon: 'I don't believe it!'

Marten de Roon admits “I don't believe what we did, I have no words” after Atalanta secured a place in the knockout stages of the Champions League.
