Rules relaxed for Sarri and Mihajlovic

Maurizio Sarri and Sinisa Mihajlovic will not be on the bench for Juventus and Bologna games, so how will they keep in touch with team and staff?

The Bianconeri announced via a statement this week that Sarri was still undergoing treatment for pneumonia and would not be on the bench for either of the two opening fixtures against Parma and Napoli.

He has been at the Continassa training centre, but in a separate room, watching the sessions via videolink and keeping in touch with his assistants on the phone.

Official: Sarri misses Parma and Napoli

Juventus have confirmed Maurizio Sarri will not be on the bench against Parma or Napoli to allow “optimal recovery” from pneumonia.

A statement released this evening unusually states that he will be absent from the stadium in both opening Serie A games.

That includes the showdown with his former club, Napoli, which was expected to be a tense and emotional occasion in Turin on August 31.

The Serie A season begins this Saturday at Parma’s Stadio Tardini.

Make the right move, Maurito

Napoli are tailor-made for a clinical finisher like Mauro Icardi and all roads lead to the San Paolo, but Giancarlo Rinaldi fears he’ll waste this too.

As a failed former striker of mediocre repute, there are few things I find more frustrating than watching talent go to waste. Most of us - spectators, supporters or scribes - have harboured some dreams of swapping places with the stars who set foot on the fields of Serie A, La Liga or the Premiership. To watch gifts like those given to Mauro Icardi being apparently frittered away has the horrible feeling of seeing your best bottle of Barolo going glug-glug-glugging down the drain.

Juventus: Sarri has pneumonia

Juventus released a statement confirming Coach Maurizio Sarri has been diagnosed with pneumonia after struggling with flu.

The tactician was taken ill last week and required medical treatment on several occasions, including just before their traditional pre-season in-house friendly with the youth team in Villar Perosa.

He then didn’t make the trip to Triestina for a 1-0 friendly match on Saturday evening.

Sarri fine for Juve opener

Maurizio Sarri is expected to be well and in position for Juventus’ Serie A opener against Parma on Saturday.

Sarri has missed Juve’s last two friendlies against their Primavera team and Triestina with a bad bout of flu.

However, Gazzetta dello Sport reports the Coach will be back in his dugout this weekend.

The Bianconeri are first to get the season under way as title holders, and the former Napoli boss should be joined at the Tardini by Cristiano Ronaldo.

Khedira: Not a mercenary!

Sami Khedira has insisted that he fought to stay at Juventus so he could win the Champions League and not just for the money.

Khedira was expected to be among the players leaving Juve over the summer, but the midfielder will instead form part of Maurizio Sarri’s plans for the new season.

“Sarri wants us to play in a totally different kind of way,” he told Kicker.

“For that reason, we’ve had some difficulties and we need time to adapt to the new system, but it’s normal.

'Juve already have Sarri's mentality'

Alex Sandro insists Juventus have already acquired Maurizio Sarri’s mentality after just one month of working together.

Juventus won their second successive friendly on Saturday as they beat Triestina 1-0, and Alex Sandro believes his side are ready to win in style under Sarri.

“I can’t wait to start the season,” the left-back told Sky Sport Italia.

“Sarri’s different to Allegri, but we already have his mentality. We know what to do. We must improve, but we’re on the right track.

Sarri can free Douglas Costa

Maurizio Sarri’s arrival can finally free Douglas Costa to show just what he can do at Juventus, argues Kaustubh Pandey.

Douglas Costa is an enigma. You never really know what to expect of the Brazilian on the pitch and more recently, he’s unpredictable off the pitch too.

Sarri and Ronaldo miss Triestina

Cristiano Ronaldo and Coach Maurizio Sarri are not making the trip to Trieste for tonight’s final Juventus pre-season friendly.

It kicks off at the Stadio Nereo Rocco at 19.30 UK time against Serie C side Triestina.

Coach Sarri will remain at home in Turin, as he is still struggling after a nasty bout of flu, which saw him visibly unwell on the touchline for this week’s in-house friendly at Villa Perosa.

Cristiano Ronaldo has been working separately over the last few days as a precaution due to muscular twinges and will not be risked.

Chelsea continue Conte battle

Inter Coach Antonio Conte is still in a legal battle with Chelsea over his £9m severance package, with reports of another appeal.

The Italian tactician was sacked last summer to make way for Maurizio Sarri and the club claimed it was not due to pay any compensation.

That was because his text to striker Diego Costa confirming he was not part of the plans was considered to be damaging to the club and worthy of dismissal.

Conte contested that and won in May, with a Premier League tribunal ordering them to pay Conte £9m.
