Inter director Beppe Marotta reveals he will soon sit down to discuss Simone Inzaghi’s contract extension and confirms two ‘unofficial’ signings, insisting that no player has asked to leave in the summer.

The Nerazzurri director spoke to reporters during an event organised by Il Foglio newspaper in Milan on Wednesday.

Inter have just become Serie A champions for the 20th time so journalists asked Marotta to explain the next steps and what fans should expect in the summer transfer window.

“We recognise the important role of the coach and part of the team. They have been backed by a solid club. You can’t win on the pitch when the club is not solid. A winning model emerged, and we are proud to represent it,” Marotta said, as quoted by FCInter1908.

What Marotta said about Inzaghi’s contract extension

“We want to continue this evolutionary process, but we don’t want revolutions. Surely, Inzaghi is not under question. We’ll sit down to extend his contract following Zhang’s instructions,” continued Marotta.

“We’ll make no revolutions, but we’ll look at the sustainability target that must characterise all the winning models of Italian clubs and try to reach more objectives. Surely, there is room for improvement to ensure we can remain protagonists like in the last few years.”

Do Inter have players who will surely remain at the club next season?

“In football, there aren’t unsellable players,” Marotta replied.

“Clubs are no longer in control; it all depends on them [players]. However, I can say that all our players have expressed the desire to continue with us because, don’t forget, we are Inter, one of the best teams in Europe. Which club could be better than this?”

Inter have been in talks to renew with Lautaro Martinez and Nicolò Barella for some time. Should Inter fans expect announcements soon?

Inter’s extensions and ‘unofficial’ signings

“I would say extensions more than renewals,” argued Marotta.

“We are in no rush. We will analyse the group of players with Ausilio and Baccin as we want to create a solid base with a strong sense of belonging.”

Recent reports have claimed that Inter will need to balance transfer income and expenditure in the summer transfer window but won’t need to sell any of their stars to balance the books, and Marotta appeared to confirm this.

“If we keep this group of players it’s already a lot,” he said.

“We’ll act in the best way as we’ve always done. Unofficially, we’ve already made two signings [Taremi and Zielinski], so we’ll work to improve a team that is already really strong.”
