Pecchia: ‘Four-way battle’

Verona boss Fabio Pecchia says the Serie A table suggests there will be four teams in the battle to avoid relegation.

The Scaligeri, who are six points clear of bottom club Benevento, trail both SPAL and Crotone by two points, with a further five-point gap to 16th placed Cagliari.

Pecchia’s team have been in the bottom three for virtually the entirety of the season, but speaking ahead of today’s crunch home meeting with the Pitagorici he insisted that what matters is to be outside the relegation zone when it counts.

Inzaghi: 'Lazio end Chievo taboo'

Caceres: ‘Lazio my destiny’

New Lazio signing Martin Caceres believes signing for the Aquile was his destiny, and sees this as a chance to “relaunch” his career.

The defender has joined the Biancocelesti after six months at Verona, choosing shirt number 22, and he was officially presented this afternoon.

“Maybe destiny was calling,” Caceres admitted in his Press conference.

Official: Lazio sign Caceres

Lazio have officially signed former Juventus defender Martin Caceres from Verona on a one-year contract.

A statement on Lazio’s official website adds there is the option of an extension written into Caceres’ deal.

The Uruguayan has put his injury problems behind him this season, starting 14 of Verona’s 20 Serie A matches.

The 30-year-old can play in any defensive position, although he predominantly appeared at right-back for the Gialloblu.

Tare: 'De Vrij stays regardless'

Lazio director Igli Tare admits Stefan de Vrij is “still undecided” on whether to sign a new contract, but “he will nonetheless end the season here.”

The Dutch international will be out of contract in June and has been linked with the likes of Barcelona, Inter, Juventus, Milan, Manchester United and Manchester City.

“We need patience with De Vrij. The lad is still undecided on his contract renewal, but I hope we can have some clarity as soon as possible,” Tare told Medisaet Premium.

Caceres to Lazio next week?

Martin Caceres could join Lazio next week, as Verona insist “he’ll be with us for Napoli”.

The Uruguayan defender joined the Butei in the summer, but it was widely reported at the time a deal was already in place with Lazio for him to move in January.

Today the club’s sporting director spoke in a Press conference, and his words seemed to indicate that Caceres will move after this weekend’s games.

“I’d do it again,” Filippo Fusco told the assembled media.

Caceres to Lazio after break?

Martin Caceres appears certain to join Lazio from Verona once Serie A’s winter break arrives.

The Uruguayan defender scored for the Scaligeri in last night’s 3-1 defeat to Juventus but his days at the Stadio Bentegodi are numbered.

According to transfer expert Gianluca Di Marzio, Verona’s match with Napoli next Saturday will be the final time Fabio Pecchia will be able to call upon the 30-year-old’s services - with Caceres completing a move to the Stadio Olimpico immediately afterwards.

Dybala right man for Juventus

Paulo Dybala proved he is back with two late goals – scored with his weaker right foot – as Juventus struggled to beat Verona 3-1.

Napoli had already secured the status of Winter Champions as leaders at the half-way stage of the season, but Juve open up a six-point gap from the chasing pack, as Inter, Roma and Lazio all failed to win today.

‘SMS can be better than Pogba’

Lazio Coach Simone Inzaghi hopes Sergej Milinkovic-Savic can become “better than Paul Pogba”, but won’t discuss transfer rumours.

It was claimed today that Paris Saint-Germain are ready to pay €170m to sign the Serbian, and the Coach was asked in his Press conference today if such rumours could disturb the youngster.

“He’s 22-years-old and he’s doing well, so it’s normal he’ll attract interest,” Inzaghi shrugged.
