Caceres to Lazio after break?

Martin Caceres appears certain to join Lazio from Verona once Serie A’s winter break arrives.

The Uruguayan defender scored for the Scaligeri in last night’s 3-1 defeat to Juventus but his days at the Stadio Bentegodi are numbered.

According to transfer expert Gianluca Di Marzio, Verona’s match with Napoli next Saturday will be the final time Fabio Pecchia will be able to call upon the 30-year-old’s services - with Caceres completing a move to the Stadio Olimpico immediately afterwards.

Dybala right man for Juventus

Paulo Dybala proved he is back with two late goals – scored with his weaker right foot – as Juventus struggled to beat Verona 3-1.

Napoli had already secured the status of Winter Champions as leaders at the half-way stage of the season, but Juve open up a six-point gap from the chasing pack, as Inter, Roma and Lazio all failed to win today.

Blaise Matuidi gave them the ideal start at the sold out Bentegodi, his scuffed finish finding the net after six minutes on the rebound from Gonzalo Higuain off the upright.

‘SMS can be better than Pogba’

Lazio Coach Simone Inzaghi hopes Sergej Milinkovic-Savic can become “better than Paul Pogba”, but won’t discuss transfer rumours.

It was claimed today that Paris Saint-Germain are ready to pay €170m to sign the Serbian, and the Coach was asked in his Press conference today if such rumours could disturb the youngster.

“He’s 22-years-old and he’s doing well, so it’s normal he’ll attract interest,” Inzaghi shrugged.

Caceres misses Uruguay double header

Verona’s Martin Caceres has not joined up with the Uruguay squad for their friendlies with Poland and Austria after picking up an injury.

The 30-year-old was substituted after 55 minutes of the Scaligeri’s 2-1 defeat at Cagliari yesterday, with scans later revealing he had sustained fatigue in a thigh muscle.

As such, it was decided that the defender would remain with his club side in order to recover during the international break.

‘Caceres to Lazio? No comment…’

Verona sporting director Filippo Fusco refuses to discuss the possibility of Martin Caceres joining Lazio - “January is a long way away”.

The Uruguayan defender joined the Butei as a free agent in the summer, but it’s though there’s a deal with the capital club which could see him move to Rome in the next transfer window.

“Right now he has a contract with us,” Fusco told Sky.
