Chelsea join Caceres chase

Antonio Conte’s Chelsea are the latest club to be linked with Uruguay international Martin Caceres, a free agent.

The versatile defender is available after his contract with Juventus expired in June.

As he is a free agent, Caceres could sign for a club outside the usual transfer sessions.

He is already of interest to Napoli, Inter, Roma and even Milan.

According to Calciomercatoweb.it, Chelsea manager Conte called up Caceres to ask about his fitness levels.

Napoli look to Caceres

Martin Caceres is still a free agent and Napoli are ready to offer him a contract after Vlad Chiriches’ injury.

The Romania international will be out for three to four weeks after surgery for a torn meniscus ligament, though it’s much less serious than previously feared.

Nonetheless, the Partenopei want more options at the back, especially with Kalidou Koulibaly and Faouzi Ghoulam leaving for the Africa Cup of Nations in January.

Inter turn to Maicon?

Sensational reports claim Inter could bring back Maicon to plug a hole at full-back.

The Brazilian previously spent six successful seasons with the Nerazzurri, winning four Scudetti and the Champions League.

The Beneamata are in need of reinforcements at right-back, and calciomercato.com reports that Maicon is being considered alongside Martin Caceres.

Both would be available on a free transfer, but would come with risks.

Caceres’ spell at Juventus was blighted by injury, while Maicon was released by Roma at the age of 35.

Caceres: ‘Inter or Milan? We’ll see…’

Martin Caceres “doesn’t know” where he’ll play this season, but he’d gladly accept Inter or Milan.

The Uruguayan defender left Juventus at the end of last season after he wasn’t offered a new contract, but has been training in northern Italy as he looks for a new club.

“The reality is that I don’t even know where I’ll play,” Caceres admitted to calciomercato.com.

Napoli: contract offer for Caceres

Napoli are now in pole to sign Martin Caceres as a free agent, offering the player a three-year contract.

The Uruguayan ended his career with Juventus effectively mid-season, as an injury took him out for months and his club decided not to renew his contract.

While there have been numerous parties interested in picking him up, notably Roma, Fiorentina, Milan and Udinese, the Gazzetta dello Sport believes that Napoli have overtaken all of their competitors.

Napoli continue Caceres talks

Napoli are continuing talks with former Juventus defender Martin Caceres, according to reports.

The Uruguayan is a free agent after leaving the Bianconeri at the end of his contract, and has also been linked with Roma.

However, given the Giallorossi have signed Bruno Peres and Thomas Vermaelen, it’s appears unlikely there will be space for Caceres at either right-back of centre-back.

Napoli saw a move for Davide Santon collapse after the Inter man failed a medical, and Sky reports that talks are ongoing for Caceres.

Napoli after Darmian, Caceres

Napoli are after Manchester United's Matteo Darmian and free agent Martin Caceres, although both deals are at the early stages.

The Italian would be a top-level addition to Maurizio Sarri's squad and a solid investment for the future.

Darmian currently doesn't seem to be at the top of the pecking order in Jose Mourinho's hierarchies and could end up returning to Italy.

Fiorentina eye Tello, Caceres

Fiorentina are attempting a double move to sign Barcelona's Cristian Tello and Juventus' Martin Caceres.

The Viola are looking to bolster both their defence and their attack, and they have set their eyes on candidates from two European giants.

The Gazzetta dello Sport reports that their objective for the attack is 24-year-old Tello, whom they already picked up on loan with an €8m purchase clause last January.

Clashes block Milan transfers?

It’s reported Milan’s lack of transfer activity is due to disputes between the current ownership and the potential new Chinese owners.

President Silvio Berlusconi is in talks to sell the Rossoneri to a consortium from the Far East, thought to be led by Sonny Wu.

According to La Repubblica, the reason for a lack of transfer activity is that the two parties cannot agree on targets.

Joint-CEO Adriano Galliani is still in charge of the transfer strategy, but must consult with the Chinese investors and their advisor Nicholas Gancikoff.

Milan consider Caceres option

Milan are reportedly considering a move for former Juventus defender Martin Caceres.

The Uruguayan is currently a free agent, having left the Bianconeri at the end of last season when his contract expired.

Roma, Inter and Napoli have all been linked, but SportMediaset believes the Rossoneri have now entered the fray, and the player himself is keen on the move.

With the club’s situation uncertain in the midst of a Chinese takeover attempt, transfer negotiations have stalled in recent weeks, as the Diavolo must sell before they buy.
