Matuidi out of France squad

Juventus midfielder Blaise Matuidi has pulled out of the France squad after suffering a rib injury against Milan.

Matuidi was subbed off 70 minutes into Juve’s 1-0 victory over Milan on Sunday, and coach Maurizio Sarri admitted the 32-year-old needed more tests for a potential fracture.

“Blaise was taken to J Medical for checks,” Sarri said after the game.

“He had to come off because of a blow to the ribs. It’s not even clear how he got injured.

Reports: Milan target Arsenal duo

Milan are reportedly interested in signing Arsenal midfielders Lucas Torreira and Granit Xhaka as Ivan Gazidis considers a raid on his former employers.

Torreira has managed just four Premier League starts for Arsenal this season, and Tuttomercatoweb writes his agent will travel to England this week to discuss his future with club officials.

The Uruguayan joined the Gunners from Sampdoria in the summer of 2018 and played a key role in their run to the Europa League Final last season.

Wenger: 'Ramsey wanted Arsenal stay'

Arsene Wenger has claimed that Aaron Ramsey “wanted to stay at Arsenal”, despite his eventual move to Juventus.

Wenger took Ramsey to Arsenal as a teenager in 2008 and managed him for the following 10 years, although the pair have since left the club.

In the Welshman’s case, he rejected a new contract at Emirates Stadium last season in favour of a free transfer to Juve.

“In the end I met him once, he wanted to stay at Arsenal,” the 70-year-old told beIN Sports.

Max Allegri has been linked with the benches of Manchester United, Real Madrid, Arsenal, Tottenham and now also Bayern Munich.

The former Juventus boss is biding his time before starting a new adventure, having ended his spell in Turin with five consecutive Serie A titles.

According to the Corriere dello Sport, Allegri is the prime candidate for the Bayern Munich job if the Germans sack Niko Kovac.

That is more than a possibility after a shock 5-1 defeat to Eintracht Frankfurt this weekend.
