Lopetegui: 'Italy haven't changed'

Spain Coach Julen Lopetegui feels Italy have not changed much in recent years and confirms Diego Costa will start rather than Alvaro Morata.

The World Cup qualifier kicks off at the Juventus Stadium in Turin tomorrow at 19.45 UK time (18.45 GMT).

“We have studied the last meeting (a 2-0 Italy victory at Euro 2016) and are ready to react in case this match should go the same way,” said the Coach in his Press conference.

Buffon: 'Italy desire beat Spain'

Gigi Buffon urged Italy to replicate the “passion and desire” that allowed them to beat Spain at Euro 2016 and joked about his “sell-by-date.”

The World Cup qualifier kicks off at the Juventus Stadium in Turin tomorrow at 19.45 UK time (18.45 GMT).

“I don’t have a clear memory of the Euro 2016 meeting, as I cannot yet have that mental clarity to see it without the adrenaline attached,” said Buffon in a Press conference.

Alvaro Morata told his agent to “forget it” when a proposal was put forward for him to join up with Napoli in the summer.

Morata looks forward to Azzurri reunion

Alvaro Morata has spoken about the Italy squad before the Azzurri take on Spain this Thursday.

He thanked his former Juventus team-mates for “treating me incredibly well” and doesn’t believe that Giorgio Chiellini’s suspension will hurt Italy too much when they take on Spain later this week.

The striker was reminded by La Gazetta dello Sport that Chellini will not feature after his red card vs Israel last month, an automatic ban meaning he will not be eligible for the meeting with La Roja.

No January return for Morata

Alvaro Morata has laughed off a suggestion that he could return to Juventus in January.

He went on to praise the Gonzalo Higuain-Paulo Dybala partnership, calling the duo “two great players.”

"It's the first time I've heard such a thing. It’s unthinkable,” he told La Gazetta dello Sport.

”That said, it’s clear that I hope that Juve always wins, I’m still very much a Juventino and and I always will be, but I do not think I’ll go back.

We meet again...

Italy and Spain have been battling on the football field for over 80 years and Adam Digby is looking forward to another tussle.

Just 101 days have passed since Italy registered their last competitive win over Spain, breaking a run of poor results against La Furia Roja that stretched back all the way to the 1994 World Cup. Goals from Giorgio Chiellini and Graziano Pellè not only saw the Azzurri notch up a 2-0 victory, but they also arguably ended their opponent’s recent domination of European football.

Morata back to Juve?

Alvaro Morata is being linked with a shock return to Juventus from Real Madrid in January.

The 23-year-old enjoyed a two-year stay with the Serie A champions before Los Blancos exercised their right to buy the forward back in the summer.

He has featured in all of Zinedine Zidane’s side’s matches so far this season, but this has not stopped Tuttosport suggesting that Morata could be in line to return to Juventus Stadium.

Lopetegui: 'Serie A made Spaniards better'

Spain Coach Julen Lopetegui sees similarities between Antonio Conte and Giampiero Ventura and believes Serie A has done some of his players good.

La Roja will travel to Italy to take on the Azzurri in Thursday night’s World Cup qualifier in a game likely to be key in determining the winners of the group.

Speaking to La Gazzetta Sportiva, the former Porto boss admitted his team face a tough test at Juventus Stadium and does not expect Italy to have changed much from Conte’s Euro 2016 team.

Morata: Conte wanted me again

Alvaro Morata confirms Antonio Conte wanted him a second time over the summer as Chelsea bid €70m, but his “dream” was always to stay at Real Madrid.

Morata was heavily linked with Chelsea once Madrid had bought him back from Juventus, Conte having been their Coach at the time of the striker’s arrival in Turin, and he hinted he would have joined the Blues had Los Blancos discarded him.

“Chelsea showed the most interest in signing me,” he told Sport Bild.
