Genoa want ‘new Dybala’?

Genoa have reportedly approached Boca Juniors over a deal for ‘the new Paulo Dybala’ Gonzalo Maroni.

According to Sky Sport Italia, Genoa want to sign Maroni on loan but only once he has signed a new contract with Boca.

The 19-year-old, who stands at just 173cm, has made just nine appearances for Los Xeneizes but shown enough promise to be nicknamed ‘La Joya’ – the same as Juventus forward Dybala.

Liverpool ask after Dybala?

With Cristiano Ronaldo close to Juventus, there are reports in Italy that Liverpool have asked after Paulo Dybala.

The idea of taking CR7 from Real Madrid for €100m with a salary of €30m per year net had seemed implausible a few days ago, but is now considered by multiple sources to be on the verge of completion.

According to Tuttomercatoweb, this has prompted Liverpool to ask after Dybala, whose role in Turin might be in doubt.

Ronaldo a no-brainer

While Gaby McKay has doubts Cristiano Ronaldo really will join Juventus, it’s clear that he’d be a stunning signing for all of Serie A.

If Cristiano Ronaldo signs for Juventus, by far the most shocking aspect of the transfer will be that it was Tuttosport who got the scoop.

With previous headline stories linking the Bianconeri to Neymar, Lionel Messi and just about every superstar under the sun, no-one gave much credence to the Turin sports daily’s front page on Sunday morning, which insisted negotiations for the Portuguese superstar were ongoing.

WC Player Profile: Paulo Dybala

After a mixed season, La Joya must accept the role of super-sub and apprentice at this World Cup, writes Emmet Gates.

The Juventus youngster is reaching the level of full maturation and started the campaign with a bang, but has realistically struggled to take a big game by the scruff of the neck since sweeping Barcelona aside 3-0.

This tournament in Russia may have come a little early for Dybala, as with Lionel Messi there and Jorge Sampaoli on the bench, he simply doesn't have enough room to shine in this side.

Higuain to push Aguero out?

Gonzalo Higuain is expected to push Sergio Aguero on to the bench with a change of system, as Argentina deny a coup against Jorge Sampaoli.

It has been a disastrous World Cup so far for the Seleccion, who drew 1-1 with Iceland and lost 3-0 to Croatia.

Amid reports of a coup from players against Coach Sampaoli, even suggesting they would decide their own training schedule and starting XI for the final group game against Nigeria, there was a tense Press conference.

Argentina 'coup' against Sampaoli?

There are extraordinary reports of a ‘coup’ within the Argentina squad to oust Coach Jorge Sampaoli and he could be fired before the Nigeria game.

The Seleccion are in crisis after a 1-1 World Cup draw with Iceland and dismal 3-0 defeat to Croatia.

They simply must beat Nigeria in the final group game, but Sampaoli might no longer be on the bench come Tuesday.

According to TyC Sports, Federation President Claudio Tapia told Sampaoli that he no longer has any control over the players.

World Cup: Croatia humiliate Argentina

Argentina could crash out of the World Cup in the group stage after a humiliating 3-0 defeat to a Croatia side that soars into the last 16.

Jorge Sampaoli was under pressure after a disappointing 1-1 draw with Iceland, in which Leo Messi saw a penalty saved, and doubled down with a change to three at the back, dropping Angel Di Maria and not using any Serie A players in the starting XI. Croatia, on the other hand, had four Italy-based men in the line-up, even though Nikola Kalinic was sent home for refusing to come on as a substitute in the win over Nigeria.

Dybala: Compatible with Messi

Juventus forward Paulo Dybala insists he is not Lionel Messi’s ‘substitute’ and that he can play with the Barcelona superstar for Argentina.

Dybala was on record as claiming he was not unable to coexist with Messi due to their similar playing styles, but the former Palermo star challenged Argentina ‘to find a formation that makes us compatible together’.

Argentina to drop Serie A players

Argentina again seem set to drop Paulo Dybala, Gonzalo Higuain and Federico Fazio, but also Lucas Biglia, against Croatia.

The Seleccion and Coach Jorge Sampaoli were bitterly criticised after a 1-1 draw with Iceland, in which Lionel Messi had a penalty saved.

Despite complaints from fans and the media that Juventus pair Dybala and Higuain were left out, Pipita only coming off the bench for the final minutes, Sampaoli seems set to repeat the pattern.

‘Dybala was close to Italy’

Former FIGC President Carlo Tavecchio claims “I was almost able to convince” Paulo Dybala to play for Italy.

The Argentine international has Italian ancestry, and while he’s always been clear about wanting to represent the Albiceleste, the former Federation chief insists things were different behind the scenes.

“[FIFA President Gianni] Infantino invited me to the World Cup final,” Tavecchio told Il Messaggero.
