New injury for Bernardeschi

Juventus confirm Federico Bernardeschi will probably miss Wednesday’s match with Atalanta due to injury.

A statement released today stated the ex-Fiorentina man had suffered a new muscular issue in his right thigh.

His condition will be evaluated day by day.

This makes it highly unlikely Bernardeschi will be available to face Atalanta on Boxing Day.

The next Serie A game on December 29 is also at risk.

Bernardeschi hails Juve support

Federico Bernardeschi has hailed Juventus as ‘a beautiful and unique world, where everyone helps you grow’.

Bernardeschi secured a big-money move to Juve in the summer of 2017, going on to win a domestic double and establish himself as a key player for Italy in that time.

“You become part of a beautiful and unique world at Juventus, which makes you grow from all points of view, not just in football,” the ex-Fiorentina winger told Corriere dello Sport.

Fiorentina-Juventus, anatomy of a rivalry

The grudge match between Fiorentina and Juventus runs deep, fuelled by decades of attrition and controversy, writes Anthony Barbagallo.

Try picturing a sea of purple flags, banners and over 40,000 Viola tifosi chanting “Oh Fiorentina” at their top their lungs throughout the iconic Stadio Artemio Franchi. The ultras in the Curva Fiesole shouting words like “ladri” (thieves) at the Juventus team – even though these current Bianconeri players weren’t around during the 1980s and 90s. This is the hostile environment Cristiano Ronaldo and Co. will experience this evening. It is only in Florence that this hate-filled rivalry evokes stronger memories of bitterness between the pair.

Can out, Bernardeschi returns

Despite Massimiliano Allegri’s assertion that he could be on the bench for Fiorentina, Emre Can is still not fit to be included in the Juventus squad.

The midfielder hasn’t played since October 13 when he started for Germany in the defeat to the Netherlands, as he had surgery on a thyroid nodule.

Allegri said in his pre-match Press conference that Can could be back for tomorrow’s game, but he isn’t in the travelling party.

Bernardeschi out for Valencia

Juventus have named their squad to face Valencia tomorrow, with Federico Bernardeschi left out.

The forward hasn’t played since the 2-1 win over Empoli on October 27, and was forced to pull out of the Italy squad.

Today Massimiliano Allegri has named his squad for the Champions League clash, and Bernardeschi has been omitted.

Otherwise it’s pretty much a full squad for the Bianconeri, who need only a draw to guarantee finishing at least second in the group and qualifying for the Last 16.

Italy's generation gap

With veterans retiring and youngsters only just starting, Marcello Cossali-Francis says it’s time Italy’s 25-30-year-olds stepped up to the plate.

After avoiding relegation from their Nations League group, international duty now takes a step back until the Euro 2020 Qualifiers in March. Italy will find out their opponents for that group on the 2nd of December and Roberto Mancini now has time on his hands to build a squad ready for competitive football again in 2019.

Berardi or Immobile for Italy

Roberto Mancini has still not decided who to use in attack against Portugal, as Ciro Immobile and Domenico Berardi are both tested.

The Nations League clash kicks off at San Siro on Saturday at 19.45 GMT.

Federico Bernardeschi is out injured, so the trident attack used against Poland has to change.

It had seemed as if Lazio forward Immobile would become the centre-forward, moving Lorenzo Insigne back to his more traditional wide left role.
