Giovinco in Al Hilal COVID outbreak

Asian Champions League winners Al Hilal caused controversy after playing a game against Shahr Khodro despite having 15 players test positive for COVID-19, including Sebastian Giovinco.

The Saudi club complained it had asked the Asian Football Confederation to postpone Sunday’s match, but were told it was not possible, as they still had 14 players available.

Giovinco is one of those who has tested positive for COVID-19 and he did not play in the 0-0 draw, which had Al Hilal mostly field reserves.

Genoa in talks with Giovinco

Sebastian Giovinco is in intensive negotiations for a return to Serie A with Genoa, claim Sportitalia, after his spell with Al-Hilal.

It’s no secret the 33-year-old would relish another experience in Italy, having left for Toronto FC in February 2015 and then moved on to Saudi side Al-Hilal in January 2019.

His contract runs until June 2021, but he should be able to buy himself out of it relatively easily.

Parma had shown interest, but now Sportitalia transfer expert Alfredo Pedullà maintains Genoa are in talks for the Atomic Ant.
