Bologna 'deserved to win'

Bologna assistant manager Emilio De Leo reveals Sinisa Mihajlovic thought they “deserved to win” after a 1-1 draw with Udinese.

Stefano Okaka was allowed a free header from a Rodrigo De Paul free kick, while Rodrigo Palacio only managed to tap in the equaliser in stoppages.

“The mentality we want to drill into the squad is that we don’t look at the difficulties, but at the opportunities,” De Leo told Sky Sport Italia.

De Leo: 'Sinisa asks for character'

Emilio De Leo has claimed Bologna are prepared to cope without a long list of absent key members against Udinese but concedes that “it will require a lot of character”.

After their recent setback against Genoa in Serie A, the Rossoblu are preparing to face the Friuli without a host of their key members available.

And the list including important players like Gary Medel, Federico Santander and Roberto Soriano is a new experience for Sinisa Mihajlovic’s assistant De Leo.

Nicola: 'Genoa must accelerate'

Davide Nicola has stressed that Genoa will need to turn on the “turbo” and work as a team in order to stay up this term.

Ahead of the match against Bologna this weekend, Genoa are currently three points away from safety in the League but are coming from a run of three positive results.

Back-to-back draws against Fiorentina and Atalanta were followed up by a win against Cagliari, but Nicola wants to see his team at full throttle during the last months of the campaign.

Sabatini on Zlatan: 'Friendship never prevails in football'

Director Walter Sabatini has admitted that they tried to lure Zlatan Ibrahimovic to Bologna through his “friendship” with Sinisa Mihajlovic.

Bologna fought Milan for the former Sweden international’s signature this winter, as he decided to return to Europe after a stint at LA Galaxy in the MLS.

He has inspired Milan after his comeback for the Rossoneri and was again important when he helped them to a 2-0 lead at half-time in the Derby della Madonnina against Inter.

Bologna 'inspired by Mihajlovic'

Bologna assistant manager Emilio De Leo said they “took inspiration” from Sinisa Mihajlovic for their 3-2 win at Roma. “We decided to play in an open, attacking way.”

The Rossoblu have now won three in a row to temporarily climb into sixth place, with January signing Musa Barrow contributing a brace and assist for Riccardo Orsolini.

Palacio: 'Bologna believe in Mihajlovic'

Rodrigo Palacio said Bologna “have great faith in Sinisa Mihajlovic and his style of football” after a 3-2 victory away to Roma.

Miha released from hospital

The Policlinico Sant’Orsola hospital has released a statement saying that Sinisa Mihajlovic has been discharged following anti-viral therapy for leukaemia.

The Serbian was recently admitted into hospital as he continues his battle with the illness.

Mihajlovic therefore missed several of Bologna’s latest matches. However the hospital where he has been receiving on-going treatment throughout his fight with leukaemia issued a statement, relaying that the 50-year-old has been discharged.

De Leo: 'Young Bologna are growing'

Emilio De Leo focused only on Bologna ahead of a “tough game” on Friday night and said the Rossoblu “will have to be resilient” against Roma.

Bologna are currently 11th in Serie A and arrive in the capital after back-to-back wins against SPAL and Brescia.

De Leo said he expects Bologna will have to “use all our resources” to have a chance against Paulo Fonseca’s men tomorrow.

Gasp: 'Award for the city of Bergamo'

Atalanta coach Gian Piero Gasperini says his Panchina d’Oro prize must be “shared with the city of Bergamo".

Gasperini won the Panchina d’Oro for the first time in his career, after a hugely impressive season in 2018-19 that saw La Dea finish third in Serie A and also reach the Coppa Italia final.

Gasperini has also guided his side into the Round of 16 in the Champions League this season, where they’ll meet Valencia.

Gasperini wins Panchina d'Oro gong

Atalanta’s Gian Piero Gasperini has won the Panchina d’Oro award for 2018-19, with Sinisa Mihajlovic in second and Max Allegri finishing third.

The award ceremony took place this afternoon, and it was revealed that Gasperini picked up the gong for the first time in his career.

The former Genoa and Inter coach guided La Dea to third place in last season’s Serie A table.

They also reached the final of the Coppa Italia final, but lost to Lazio.
