Mirabelli: Milan tried for Ancelotti

Former Milan sporting director Massimiliano Mirabelli reveals he wanted to bring back Carlo Ancelotti and tried to sign Napoli winger Jose Callejon.

Ancelotti was linked with a return to Milan in the months after Li Yonghong’s ill-fated 2017 takeover, while Callejon was the subject of a possible swap deal involving Suso last year.

“We thought about him and there was some talk,” Mirabelli told Radio Kiss Kiss.

No way back for this Milan

It’s difficult to see how Marco Giampaolo and Milan can recover from the abject defeat to Fiorentina, as Kaustubh Pandey analyses what went wrong.

In what was another harrowing night at San Siro, Marco Giampaolo’s Milan ambled to an embarrassing defeat against Vincenzo Montella’s Fiorentina. The 3-1 result, if anything, flattered the hosts.

La Viola came into the game after grabbing their first win in 18 rounds, beating struggling Sampdoria 2-1 in midweek. The Rossoneri lost to Torino on Thursday, but for an hour played their best football of the season, so maintained the same XI and 4-3-3 system, but with radically different results.

Donnarumma: Milan with Giampaolo

Gianluigi Donnarumma insists the Milan squad “are all with” Coach Marco Giampaolo and that they took “a positive turn” against Torino.

There is a growing lack of confidence in Giampaolo amongst the Milan fan base after they threw away the lead to lose 2-1 to Toro last night, but Donnarumma made it clear the Rossoneri were rowing in the right direction.

“It’s a defeat that burns. It’s a dark day and I struggled to sleep last night,” he told Sky Sport Italia.

Conte machine crushes Milan

After four rounds, Inter already look like a well-oiled Antonio Conte machine, writes Kaustubh Pandey, but Milan are just going through the motions.

The Derby della Madonnina came early in a season with two new Coaches, but Inter are already leaving Milan in their dust.

The Nerazzurri had a clear plan in mind from the very first minute. They gave the impression of certainty in everything they did. As Milan looked to keep possession and build from the back every single time, Inter launched an aggressive press on them. And it became obvious from the first 10 minutes that Marco Giampaolo had fielded some players who were too static for what is supposed to be a dynamic system on and off the ball.

Donnarumma: 'So grateful' to Boban

Gianluigi Donnarumma is ‘so grateful’ to Zvonimir Boban, reveals he cried when Sinisa Mihajlovic left Milan and assures they are adapting to Marco Giampaolo.

Milan have won two of their first three games under Giampaolo, although without playing particularly well, and face Inter in the Derby della Madonnina on Saturday.

“It was an adrenaline rush with the last kick of the game,” Donnarumma told DAZN, describing his show of passion after his side’s 1-0 win against Verona last weekend.
