Milan have Donnarumma, Romagnoli, Ibra problems

Milan are expected to have showdown contract renewal talks this summer with Mino Raiola for Gianluigi Donnarumma, Alessio Romagnoli and Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

The agent used to have a very strong rapport with the Rossoneri, back when Adriano Galliani and Silvio Berlusconi were at the helm.

That deteriorated after Massimiliano Mirabelli became director of sport, while the club is now trying to do its negotiating via Ivan Gazidis.

According to Tuttosport, Raiola is going to be at the centre of several tricky situations at Milan this summer.

Five Azzurri ready for Euro 2021

Now that Euro 2020 is postponed to next summer, Wayne Girard takes a look at some Italy players who are frankly overjoyed about that delay.

As we all know by now, the Euro 2020 tournament has now been postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic. The Azzurri and its fans were looking forward to this more than any other tournament since the 2006 World Cup. A rejuvenated talent pool not seen since those heights some 14 years ago, they were one of the favourites to win it. Yet this season, it became apparent that several of the planned-to-be-breakout-stars needed just a little bit more time to develop, mentally and/or physically, facing dips in form and injury crises at the blossoming of their careers.

Donnarumma could miss Genoa match

Asmir Begovic could start Milan’s match against Genoa as Gianluigi Donnarumma didn’t participate in training, according to Sky Sport Italia.

The broadcaster has reported that the Italy international might have to sit out the League match against the Rossoblu this weekend.

That would open for Begovic to start the match, reportedly set to take place at 11:30 GMT on Sunday and it would represent the Bosnian goalkeeper’s first start for the Rossoneri.

Donnarumma out of Juve-Milan

Gianluigi Donnarumma is not even in the squad travelling to Turin for Milan’s Coppa Italia semi-final against Juventus.

The first leg ended 1-1 at San Siro and the return is set for Wednesday at 20.00 GMT.

According to Sky Sport Italia, the goalkeeper did not feel at 100 per cent and decided not to risk further damage to that ankle injury he suffered against Fiorentina.

It means Asmir Begovic should step in to start at the Allianz Juventus Stadium.

Can Milan keep the stars?

The proposed change of hierarchy at Milan has led to speculation regarding the future of Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Gigio Donnarumma, Ante Rebic and Simon Kjaer.

The former Sweden international returned to San Siro during the winter and helped Stefano Pioli lift the mood in the camp and spur the team to go on a great run after the winter break.

His contract expires in June but includes an option to extend for another year with the Rossoneri and CEO Ivan Gazidis has already voiced his great impression of the 38-year-old.

Donnarumma out against Genoa

Asmir Begovic might have to step up as Gianluigi Donnarumma seems likely to sit out of Milan’s match against Genoa on Sunday.

Multiple reports in Italy claim that the Azzurri star is still in pain after suffering an injury in a challenge with Federico Chiesa during the last match against Fiorentina.

The reports suggest that Stefano Pioli will not be ready to risk the shot-stopper in fear of another setback, as the young Rossoneri keeper still struggles to overcome the problem.

Mirabelli: 'Great players don't make great directors'

Former Milan director of sport Massimiliano Mirabelli has criticised Paolo Maldini, saying “those who have played at the highest levels are not necessarily capable of being directors.”

Mirabelli was director of sport at the Rossoneri for just over a year, but was ousted in the summer of 2018 as Li Yonghong lost control of the club due to defaulting on a €300m loan from Elliott Management.

Mirabelli spoke to Calciotoday.it about the current iteration of the club, and had some stern words for Rossoneri legend Paolo Maldini.
