Donnarumma: 'Milan target is fourth'

Gianluigi Donnarumma wished Gonzalo Higuain luck ahead of the Chelsea move, but Milan beat Genoa and “our objective is fourth place.”

The shot-stopper performed some fantastic saves to help them in a 2-0 victory at Marassi, with Fabio Borini and Suso goals.

This game was played on a Monday, as Milan lost the Supercoppa clash with Juventus in Jeddah on Wednesday.

Saving with grace

Serie A has always provided an array of talented goalkeepers and Richard Hall notes this season is another vintage one for shot-stoppers.

Italian football and goalkeepers have always been a match that is as delectable as Barolo and truffles, so this season is no different. There have been some fantastic performances and some unbelievable saves, as the artform of custodian continues to evolve.

Some of the expected performers continue to excel, but there have also been some new faces that have now come on to the scene. This season has also seen some old favourites struggle to find form, meaning that it’s has been one of the most interesting positions to observe this campaign.

Donnarumma: Milan won for Gattuso

Gianluigi Donnarumma dedicated Milan’s 2-1 win against SPAL to Gennaro Gattuso. “He never gave up, always defended us and made us feel important.”

Milan ended a four-game run without a goal or win on Saturday, coming back from behind to beat SPAL, and Donnarumma was delighted his side were able to ease the pressure on their Coach.

“It was a nice save but the whole team played well,” the goalkeeper told Milan TV.

“We were good to come back from behind and then put Higuain in a good position to score.

Semplici: 'Donnarumma rescued Milan'

Leonardo Semplici maintains SPAL “deserved a point and Gianluigi Donnarumma rescued the result for Milan at the end.”

The Spallini had taken the lead through Andrea Petagna, but were overturned by Samu Castillejo and Gonzalo Higuain goals for 2-1.

“We played the game we needed to. Milan were in good shape and their strikers, including Suso, would shift the balance to cause us problems,” the Coach told DAZN.

Alex Sandro: 'Happy at Juventus'

Alex Sandro is “very happy to continue being part of the Juventus family” after a contract extension made him the 10th highest-paid Serie A player.

The Brazilian put pen to paper today on a new deal to June 2023, believed to be worth around €5m per year.

That is a significant increase on his previous salary of €2.8m per year.

Sirigu: ‘Buffon a symbol for Italy’

Salvatore Sirigu feels Gianluigi Buffon “represents Italian football”, and gives his opinion on the next generation of Italian goalkeepers.

The Torino ‘keeper spent many years as backup to Buffon in the Italy squad, and the veteran is now with Sirigu’s former club, Paris Saint-Germain.

In an interview with Corriere della Sera the Granata goalkeeper was asked what he does in his spare time, and that brought up the topic of Buffon.

Mbappe' wins Kopa Trophy

Kylian Mbappé is the winner of the first Kopa Trophy as best Under-21 player of 2018, with Justin Kluivert, Gianluigi Donnarumma and Patrick Cutrone in the top seven.

The award has been introduced as an adjunct to the Ballon d’Or, which is also organised by France Football.

Mbappé was the inevitable winner after a massive transfer to Paris Saint-Germain, second consecutive Ligue 1 title and a key role in winning the World Cup for France.

Reina: ‘Juventus can win in April’

Pepe Reina laments “there’s only one favourite” for the Scudetto, and feels if Juventus maintain their form “they’ll win the league in April”.

The Bianconeri have an eight point advantage over the goalkeeper’s former side, Napoli, at the top of Serie A, and the Spaniard is worried there is no stopping them.

“I’m sorry to say that there’s only one favourite: Juventus,” Milan’s Reina confessed, speaking to Sky.

Reina: Three more years

Pepe Reina says he will honour his Milan contract before ‘becoming a winning Coach’ and Gianluigi Donnarumma will be ‘very important on the world stage’.

Reina signed a three-year contract with Milan over the summer but is firmly behind Donnarumma in the Rossoneri’s goalkeeping pecking order, only seeing game time in the Europa League so far.

“I want to enjoy my football for the next three years and then I’ll study to become a winning Coach in the future,” the 36-year-old told Onda Cero.

Gravina: 'Italy stars for U21 Euros'

FIGC President Gabriele Gravina implies all eligible Italy players will be available for the Under-21 European Championship.

The Azzurrini are the host nation, yet also drawn in the Group of Death with Spain, Belgium and Poland.
