Lukaku key to Icardi on the cheap

There are differing reports on Mauro Icardi’s situation at Inter, as Juventus and Napoli both try to use Romelu Lukaku to their advantage.

The Argentina international has been frozen out by Antonio Conte and director Beppe Marotta, left to train by himself while the rest of the squad is on a tour of Asia.

Icardi has repeatedly turned down other options, as he has his heart set on Juventus, but there are different reports emerging this evening.

Icardi open to Napoli talks?

Inter forward Mauro Icardi is now open to discussing a move to Napoli, according to Sportitalia, as Gonzalo Higuain is stalling Juventus.

The striker was told in no uncertain terms he was not part of Antonio Conte’s plans at San Siro this season, but has until now rejected all options.

He wanted to hold out for Juve, but the Bianconeri cannot purchase until they have sold Higuain.

As Higuain continues to snub the offer from Roma and the summer goes on, Icardi is beginning to realise he might not be able to wait for the Bianconeri.

Marotta: 'Inter respect Conte and FFP'

Beppe Marotta confirmed Inter are “seeking two strikers” for Antonio Conte, but “there are economic balances to be respected.”

The former Juventus director general spoke to the media after a summit in China between the Coach and various club chiefs.

Conte hit the headlines with his at times stark and almost insulting treatment of the players no longer in his plans, but Marotta insists that’s nothing new.

Report: Icardi open to Napoli

Inter striker Mauro Icardi is reportedly now open to joining Napoli as opposed to Juventus.

Juve left their No 9 jersey vacant for preseason, which was picked up by some as a sign that it was reserved for Icardi.

However, Corriere dello Sport writes the Argentine is ‘thinking long and hard’ about an offer from Napoli President Aurelio De Laurentiis.

The newspaper adds he will speak to Coach Carlo Ancelotti sometime this week and that agent-wife Wanda Nara is also coming around to the idea.

Inter scrap Ivan the Terrible

Antonio Conte threw Ivan Perisic on to the increasingly crowded Inter scrapheap, writes Football Italia Chief Correspondent Richard Hall.

The message was clear and very strong. Ivan Perisic had no place in Antonio Conte’s new system. The statement from the Inter Coach seemed ill-timed and rather unnecessary, his team had only just really started pre-season, so what motive was behind the outburst? Now the Croatian moves on to the list of players looking to exit this summer, a missive that includes Mauro Icardi, Radja Nainggolan and Borja Valero. Is this wise?

Sacchi: 'Why would Juve want Icardi?'

Arrigo Sacchi can’t understand why Maurizio Sarri would want Inter striker Mauro Icardi at Juventus. “It’d create more complications.”

There are multiple reports Icardi is rejecting all offers so that he can go to Juve this summer and play alongside Cristiano Ronaldo.

“Icardi is a specialist in his role, but would struggle within a concept of total football,” argued Grande Milan Coach Sacchi on Sport Mediaset.

Report: Icardi-Aubameyang swap rejected

Inter striker Mauro Icardi rejected an exchange deal with Arsenal striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, claim Sport Mediaset, as he wants Juventus.

The former captain has been left out of their pre-season tour of Asia and told he is not in the plans of new Coach Antonio Conte.

However, he continues to turn down any and all proposals, because he is convinced that he’ll join Juventus for a reduced fee in late August.
