Zanetti: ‘Inter starting point’

Vice-President Javier Zanetti sees this season as “a starting point” for Inter, and backs Coach Roberto Mancini.

The Nerazzurri were targeting a return to the Champions League this season, but ultimately fell short and finished the season in fourth-place.

“This year wasn’t bad, because we returned to Europe,” Zanetti told reporters at the Niccolò Galli tournament in Florence.

Thohir: ‘Inter need three’

President Erick Thohir says Inter need “three signings with talent and charisma” this summer.

The Nerazzurri finished fourth under Roberto Mancini this season, missing out on their stated objective of Champions League football.

“Mancini has another year left on his contract, he’s a great Coach,” Thohir told fans at Inter Club in Indonesia.

“There are some regrets, but lamenting them won’t solve the problem. We have great faith in Mancini, we want to push him to do his best.

Icardi: ‘Inter messed up’

‘Inter messed up in January’ admits Mauro Icardi, who also has ‘no regrets’ with his use of social media.

The Nerazzurri are set to finish fourth in Serie A, despite having led the table at the turn of the year.

Captain Icardi discussed the team’s campaign before discussing social media, something that has got him into trouble in the past.

“I’m still missing the national team, but I can’t make it into an obsession,” Icardi told Gazzetta dello Sport.

“Wanda [Nara, his wife] says I’m crazy, but when I don’t run the risk of compromising my work anymore I’ll definitely do a bit of bungee jumping,” Icardi told the newspaper.

Icardi: ‘I wanted Batistuta’s power’

Inter’s Mauro Icardi reveals ex-Roma and Fiorentina striker Gabriel Batistuta ‘was my idol – I hoped to steal the secret of his power on the pitch.’

The Nerazzurri striker gave a lengthy interview to Gazzetta dello Sport today in which he reflected on watching his compatriot while growing up.

“As a child I saw Gabriel Batistuta as an idol,” said Icardi.

“The first time I saw him was in front of the TV, in a game with the national team. He was on another level from the rest, untouchable.

Solid Inter foundations to build on

This season hasn't been an abject failure for Inter as they've found a base to improve on, writes Richard Hall.

When assessing the Nerazzurri’s season it is perhaps too easy to be negative. Whilst it is true that in some respects it has been a campaign of missed opportunities, it has also been one that has seen the club build a solid core. Europa League football is certainly an achievement for the club and despite falling short of the pre-season goal of Champions League football, they can look back with some pride.

Icardi out for Sassuolo

Inter will be without Mauro Icardi for Saturday’s clash with Sassuolo, after he suffered a thigh injury.

The match is all-but meaningless for the Nerazzurri, who are already guaranteed fourth-place, but it could have knock-on effects for their city rivals, Milan.

If Sassuolo win the match, they will secure sixth-place in Serie A, regardless of what the Rossoneri do against Roma.

That would mean that if Milan don’t beat Juventus in the Coppa Italia final, the Neroverdi would enter the Europa League at their expense.

Inter snub West Ham for Icardi

Inter have a €35m offer from West Ham United for Mauro Icardi, but won't negotiate for less than €40m, say reports.

The Argentinian is part of the list of five players that absolutely must not be sold according to Coach Roberto Mancini, but the Nerazzurri's dire financial situation may force them to consider some offers.

The Daily Mirror reports that West Ham are looking to Icardi for the next season, but their offer of €35m is unlikely to be sufficient.

Mancini-Inter clash on Toure

Roberto Mancini wants to keep five core players and sign Yaya Toure, but the latter costs too much for Inter.

The Nerazzurri's excellent start to the campaign last year proved deceptive, and they failed to reconquer the summits of Serie A, thus limiting their movement on the transfer market this summer.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Coach Mancini has laid down his conditions for remaining with the club. In particular, he is categorical that the five core players of the Biscione squad cannot be sold.
