Juve chasing the wrong man

Football Italia Chief Correspondent Richard Hall looks at the deal for Romelu Lukaku and asks if this really is the right move for Juventus?

When the first headlines appeared that Juventus were in talks for Romelu Lukaku, everyone assumed it was purely a show of spite to cause problems for Inter and their former heroes Antonio Conte and Beppe Marotta. Now it looks as if they genuinely want the Manchester United striker and are prepared to sacrifice Paulo Dybala to achieve this aim.

Report: Cavani rejects Inter, Icardi...

Gazzetta dello Sport is claiming Edinson Cavani has rejected Inter, Mauro Icardi will only leave for Juventus and Edin Dzeko’s move has stalled.

Cavani had emerged as Inter’s preferred alternative to Romelu Lukaku for the role of No 9.

However, La Gazzetta warns the Uruguayan informed the Nerazzurri that he would rather stay at Paris Saint-Germain, at least until his contract expires next summer.

Icardi considering Roma and Napoli

With Juventus pursuing Romelu Lukaku, it seems Inter striker Mauro Icardi is finally open to other offers from Roma and Napoli.

The Bianconeri are on the verge of completing a deal with Manchester United, handing over Paulo Dybala in exchange for Lukaku, although the final decision rests with La Joya.

Lukaku had been Inter’s first choice for the attack, but this move would also effectively rule Icardi out of joining Juventus.

Inter: Rebic plus Dzeko, Icardi to Roma?

Inter are turning towards Eintracht Frankfurt striker Ante Rebic and could send Mauro Icardi to Roma for Edin Dzeko, claim Sky Sport Italia.

The Nerazzurri have practically given up on Romelu Lukaku, insisting their final offer won’t be increased, giving Juventus the all-clear to start a swap deal with Paulo Dybala.

They still need centre-forwards and are reportedly aiming for 25-year-old Rebic, who has some Serie A experience at Fiorentina.

Boca: 'We asked Inter about Icardi'

Boca Juniors President Daniel Angelici confirmed they have “asked Inter about the Mauro Icardi situation.”

The striker has been frozen out by Coach Antonio Conte, director Beppe Marotta and even President Steven Zhang, who all made it absolutely clear he has no place in their squad.

“I know that (Boca director of sport Nicolas) Burdisso spoke to (Inter vice-president Javier) Zanetti and asked about the Icardi situation,” Angelici told Radio Cooperativa.

Analysing Napoli's ambition

Football Italia’s Chief Correspondent Richard Hall wonders if Napoli’s approach to the transfer market is proving counter-productive...

There was an air of inevitability when it emerged that Arsenal had toppled Napoli for Nicolas Pepe. All summer, the Partenopei have been looking to add a marque attacking signing to their ranks but, as yet, have failed to do so. The feeling that this year is their year to catch Juventus seems to be driving their ambition, but they have not been able to deliver. What’s next for Carlo Ancelotti’s team and why have they lost out again on another big name?

Napoli seem to have lost out to Arsenal for Nicolas Pepe, as while Lille sell for €80m, only the Gunners agreed to his agents’ demands.

The situation reached a head this week when Pepe’s agents landed by helicopter in the Napoli pre-season training camp Dimaro.

Coach Carlo Ancelotti confirmed he had met them as part of negotiations, while Lille President Gerard Lopez announced the €80m asking price had been met.
