Cristante: 'Roma needed clean sheet'

Bryan Cristante explained some of Roma’s tactical approaches and celebrated the clean sheet against Istanbul Basaksehir.

The Giallorossi opened their Europa League campaign with a confident 4-0 result at the Stadio Olimpico.

“We are continuing to grow, it was another good performance, but more importantly we managed to keep a clean sheet,” the midfielder told Sky Sport Italia.

Cristante: 'Roma always get goals'

Tonali earns Italy call-up

Brescia midfielder Sandro Tonali has been called up to the Italy squad, replacing Roma’s Bryan Cristante.

It was initially thought that Freiburg winger Vincenzo Grifo had taken Cristante’s spot after he had dropped out with flu.

However, the FIGC confirmed on Monday evening that Tonali had also been summoned for the Azzurri’s upcoming Euro 2020 qualifiers against Armenia and Finland.

Italy: Grifo replaces Cristante

Vincenzo Grifo has completed a return to Freiburg and replaced Roma midfielder Bryan Cristante in the Italy squad.

Grifo made his name at Freiburg, scoring 23 goals and providing 26 assists for the German side between 2015 and 2017.

The 26-year-old spent the second half of last season at the Bundesliga outfit, netting six times in 16 appearances, and he is back on a permanent basis.

It gets even better for the winger as he has also taken Cristante’s place in the Italy squad after the Roma man pulled out with a fever.

Cristante completes Roma comeback

Bryan Cristante believes Roma are making ‘good progress’ under Paulo Fonseca after his last-gasp goal beat Lille 3-2 on Saturday.

The Giallorossi fell behind to an early Timothy Weah goal and seemed to be heading for a 2-2 draw until Cristante struck in the first minute of injury time to earn Fonseca his second friendly win.

“I’m happy with my goal,” the midfielder told Roma TV.

Official: Roma buy Cristante

Roma have officially signed midfielder Bryan Cristante from Atalanta on a permanent basis.

Roma brought in Cristante on loan with obligation to buy last summer, and the club confirmed on Thursday that the option had been exercised.

The Giallorossi paid €5m to loan the Italy international and will follow up with a further €15m for the permanent transfer, ahead of €10m in performance-related bonuses.

Italy Under-21 Coach Gigi Di Biagio discussed synergy with Roberto Mancini and why Roma talent Nicolò Zaniolo is “the prototype of the modern football player.”
