Atalanta living the dream

Tonight’s Champions League Round of 16 tie is historic for Atalanta, but Emmet Gates explains their ascent is more than a mere fairy-tale story.

‘Christmas has come early’ was the general feeling coming out of the Atalanta camp in the aftermath of the Champions League draw in mid-December. The competition’s greatest surprise package this season had somehow made it into the last 16, and were drawn against Valencia.

Fonseca already on Roma warning

Football Italia Chief Correspondent Richard Hall can already see another Roma overhaul on the horizon if Paulo Fonseca fails to get a top four finish.

The defeat asked even more questions of the Giallorossi, who have been in dismal form of late. As is seemingly inevitable in the Eternal City, enthusiasm for coaches has the longevity of a paper bag more than the Pantheon. Already there are question marks raised over Paulo Fonseca’s project and whether another overhaul is needed.

Cagliari host Napoli without Nainggolan in their squad after the verdict, whilst Armando Izzo must sit out when Torino try to avoid their sixth consecutive defeat at San Siro against Milan on Monday.
