Antonin Barak made it clear that he was ‘happy to have stayed’ with Fiorentina after Napoli tried to make a move in January.

The 29-year-old Czech midfielder was linked with a number of clubs in the January transfer window but decided to move forward with the Viola, where he arrived back in August 2022. He’s struggled for consistent minutes under Vincenzo Italiano this term.

Napoli have been in a state of chaos this term and their attempts to stem the bleeding in January failed to bring the required results, forcing a change in the dugout. Interim boss Francesco Calzona has done well enough since taking over, but a top four finish looks almost impossible at this stage.

Speaking at a press conference via Calciomercato.com, Barak was asked about what happened in the January transfer window.

“In January I also consulted with the coaching staff of the national team. I was looking for the best solution for me, to be able to play.

“There were some teams interested, the one who most serious were Napoli, but then in the end it didn’t work out and today I’m happy to have stayed. Fiorentina showed that they still have faith in me.”

This season, the 29-year-old Barak has scored fours goals in 755 minutes of action across 22 matches.
