Inter: 'Bale price-tag is over £40m'

Inter director Marco Branca reveals “Tottenham want more than £40m for Gareth Bale. We like him, but the price is not compatible.”

This week The Guardian splashed the headline that the Nerazzurri had offered £40m to take Welsh wizard Bale in the summer.

“The day before that story came out, I received a text message from the President of Tottenham telling me the figures were lower than his real price-tag,” explained Branca during today's Press conference.

Report: Inter to bid €40m for Bale

The Guardian claims Inter have placed a mammoth £40m bid for Tottenham winger Gareth Bale.

The Welsh international already impressed the Nerazzurri when facing them during the Champions League group phase, running riot against Douglas Maicon.

As he is Cup-tied, Inter would begin negotiations now to have him booked for the summer transfer session.

It is hardly the first time the 21-year-old has been linked with the European, World and Italian Champions.

Real Madrid boss Jose Mourinho is also interested in bringing Bale to La Liga.

Milan trio doubtful for Spurs

Clarence Seedorf, Gennaro Gattuso and Alessandro Nesta are all in a race against time to be fit for Milan's Champions League tie against Spurs.

The three wounded stars all underwent tests today after they picked up various injuries over the weekend.

Seedorf limped out of training on Saturday with a thigh problem, the same injury sustained by Gattuso in the warm-up ahead of last night's 2-0 win over Cesena. They will be out for three weeks.

Tottenham star Gareth Bale's former agent “can confirm interest from Juventus for June, while Real Madrid are trying to sign him in January.”

An interview with Il Sussidiario suggested Peppino Tirri was making a very clear outline of the situation, but he told Calciomercato.it that “I was speaking as a FIFA agent who is very active in England, but I no longer represent Bale and haven't worked with his agency for months.”

Allegri pleased with Tottenham draw

Milan boss Massimiliano Allegri appears to be happy with his side being drawn against Tottenham in the Last 16 of the Champions League.

The Rossoneri currently sit top of Serie A, but remain cautious of Spurs given they took three points off Inter in the group stages.

"They are a good side, but seeing the other teams that we could have also drawn, it was one of the less hostile on paper," Allegri said.

"I am happy with the draw. We are going to London and it's always a pleasure to play against the English.

Paper champions?

After midweek humiliation do Inter bounce back or do we have to re-evaluate their status as European champions? Steve Wilson considers the issue

Inter ARE the European champions. That is unquestionable. It says it in the record books, it says it on the trophy. However, after this week's Champions League result their status suddenly seems a little tainted, they don't seem like champions. How many other Champions League winners have looked so tame in their defence? If you ask yourself who the best team in Europe is, do Inter really spring to mind first?

Bale is like a Ferrari, says Benitez

Inter Coach Rafa Benitez has likened Tottenham wing-back Gareth Bale to a Ferrari while comparing his defenders to Volvos.

The Wales international once again ripped Inter apart, this time at White Hart Lane, inspiring Spurs to a historic 3-1 victory.

"We have played many times against Bale," Benitez said. "We know that he is quick and difficult to mark.

"It's not a question of the wide players covering him, but the problem was that we were losing.

Moratti cautions Rafa after Spurs loss

Inter President Massimo Moratti has let Rafael Benitez know that he was unimpressed with Tuesday's heavy defeat to Tottenham in the Champions League.

The holders lost 3-1 and once again showed they couldn't stop Welsh wing-back Gareth Bale who once again ran riot.

"We lacked play and character," Moratti said. "It's not that we need to react with severity every time these things happen, but if anything we need to take it into account and understand that we can't reach our objectives like this.

Benitez won't underestimate Spurs

Inter boss Rafa Benitez believes tonight's game against Tottenham in the Champions League could have a crucial bearing on his side's season.

The European champions travel to White Hart Lane with an opportunity to qualify for the next round of the competition with two games to spare.

"Winning this game would be very important and the players know it," Benitez said.

"We know what we must do to manage it, even if I had the sensation that when Tottenham faced Manchester United on Saturday they were already thinking about us."
