Fiorentina tie down Ranieri

Fiorentina have announced that defender Luca Ranieri has signed a five-year contract with the club.

The left-back only made his debut for the Viola this season, and has been tied down to June 2024.

The 20-year-old was signed from Foggia last summer for €1.8m, and can play at either left-back or in the centre.

He’s made three appearances in Serie A this season, and made his debut in the 2-1 defeat to Genoa in early September.

He played 29 games in Serie B last season as Foggia failed to reach the playoffs.

Petrescu: 'I'd love Serie A job'

Cluj Coach Dan Petrescu is “worried” at facing Lazio in the Europa League tomorrow and reveals he’d love to follow Zdenek Zeman’s example in Serie A.

It kicks off on Thursday at 17.55 UK time (16.55 GMT), as part of a group with Celtic and Rennes.

“I watched Lazio’s performance against SPAL and they could’ve scored three or four goals in the first half, but they ran out of steam physically and struggled with the heat. With several players of a certain age, that can happen,” said the Coach in his Press conference.

Amantino Mancini in at Foggia

Former Roma star Amantino Mancini has taken his first managerial job after being confirmed as Foggia’s new Coach.

Mancini is handed the reins at a Foggia side who must start again in Serie D following their demotion from the second tier.

The 39-year-old is best known for his spell at Roma between 2003 and 2008, scoring 59 goals in 222 games.

His performances on the Giallorossi’s right wing earned him a €13m transfer to Inter, but he could not rekindle his previous form.

Serie C: Four clubs fail to register

There are four clubs who won’t register for the 2019-20 Serie C season, as Arzachena, Albissola, Lucchese and Siracusa go bankrupt.

The new Lega Pro campaign will return to 60 teams divided into three groups based on region.

It was confirmed this evening that they only received 57 applications, 56 of which were successful.

That is because Arzachena attempted to register and their paperwork did not show sufficient financial stability to take part in the full campaign.

Date set for Serie B playout

The dates for the Serie B playout between Venezia and Salernitana have been set for early next month.

Palermo’s relegation to Serie C was revised to a 20-point deduction on Wednesday, keeping them in the second tier.

However, that had ramifications for Foggia, who were relegated to the third tier.

Serie B: Palermo avoid relegation

Palermo have partially won an appeal against their demotion to Serie C, as they are ‘only’ docked 20 points for financial irregularities and therefore stay in Serie B.

They had originally been demoted to last place and therefore relegated.

This means that the Rosanero, who had been due to take part in the promotion play-offs before the court case, have enough points under their belt to stay in Serie B next season.

They did have 63 points during the regular 2018-19 season, so go down to 43 points and are mid-table.

Serie B playouts to go ahead

The Serie B playout between Foggia and Salernitana is set to go ahead now after two rulings in its favour.

The dates for the two-legged affair - which will decide who drops down to the third tier - will be announced soon by Lega B President Mauro Balata.

Foggia received a six-point deduction at the start of the season but appealed to have that lifted after Palermo were demoted for financial irregularities.

Serie B playouts back on?

Serie B has been thrown back into chaos after a court blocked the League’s decision to cancel relegation playouts.

Foggia had appealed to have their six-point deduction lifted following Palermo’s demotion for financial irregularities.

CONI appeals court chief Franco Frattini then ruled last week that the original verdict would stand, resulting in the Apulians’ relegation to Serie C.

Foggia lose Serie B appeal

Foggia are set to start next season in Serie C after they lost their appeal for a six-point deduction to be lifted.

Foggia had sent the appeal following Palermo’s demotion for financial irregularities.

However, CONI appeals court chief Franco Frattini ruled on Friday that the original verdict would stand.

Consequently, there will be no need for playouts, with the Rossoneri finishing a point behind Salernitana in 16th place.

Serie B: Foggia players in bomb attacks

Serie B side Foggia are in shock after explosive devices were used to intimidate players Pietro Iemmello, Massimo Busellato and patron Franco Sannella.

The timing of the incidents suggests it was an act of intimidation from the ultras following Saturday’s local derby defeat to Lecce, which saw them slide into the relegation zone.

Club patrons Fedele and Franco Sannella own the Tamma pasta factory, which had windows blown out by an improvised explosive device detonated outside last night.
