Goalkeepers vote Buffon the GOAT

Gianluigi Buffon has been voted the best goalkeeper of all time by a jury of his peers, including Manuel Neuer, Julio Cesar and Peter Schmeichel.

La Gazzetta dello Sport contacted 18 different shot-stoppers representing 18 different countries to ask them about the GOAT of Goalkeepers.

The winner of the vote, although many abstained from naming a single best of all time or suggested more than one name, was Italy international Buffon with seven votes.

He was narrowly followed by Lev Yashin on five, then Dino Zoff with two.

Investigation into Buffon blasphemous phrase

The FIGC has opened an investigation into Juventus goalkeeper Gigi Buffon for allegedly using a blasphemous phrase on the pitch.

The incident was caught on audio during the game with Parma and seemed to be the goalkeeper, but the Lega Serie A Disciplinary Commission had not taken action because he was not on camera at the time.

Buffon’s special evening in Parma

Gigi Buffon played his 653rd Serie A game yesterday against Parma, exactly 25 years and one month after his League debut with the Ducali.

The 42-year-old is the player with most appearances in Serie A. Yesterday, he played his 653rd game in Italy’s top-flight, exactly 25 years and one month after his League debut with the Parma shirt.

Buffon played his first Serie A game against Milan at the Stadio Tardini, the same stadium where Juventus picked up a 4-0 win last night.

Gigi Buffon hailed the ‘extraordinary’ 3-0 Juventus victory away to Barcelona and compared it to the infamous 3-1 result at Real Madrid.

Gianluigi Buffon turns 43 next month, yet he put in an historic performance to neutralise Lionel Messi when Juventus beat Barcelona 3-0.

The goalkeeper made seven saves this evening at Camp Nou to deny Messi.

Remarkably, Messi hadn’t managed seven shots on target since October 2018 in a Champions League fixture, yet he was unable to get any of them past the veteran goalkeeper.

De Ligt: 'Juve youngsters work hard'

Juventus defender Matthijs de Ligt said the youngsters at the Allianz Stadium work hard to become like their ‘more experienced teammates’.

De Ligt moved from Ajax to the Allianz Stadium for €85.5m in July 2019 and the 21-year-old said the ‘mentality’ at his former club helps him at the Old Lady.

Juve: Buffon to start against Cagliari?

According to several reports in Italy, Gigi Buffon will start against Cagliari on Saturday, making his 652nd appearance in Serie A.

The Juventus goalkeeper made his Serie A debut with Parma 25 years ago and according to La Gazzetta dello Sport and Tuttosport, he could celebrate on Saturday when Cagliari meet the Old Lady at the Allianz Stadium.

Buffon, who remained at the Continassa during the international break, is fit and is expected to start in place of Wojciech Szczęsny who played with Poland during the break.
