Report: Chiellini ready to extend with Juve

Juventus are only formalities away from extending Giorgio Chiellini's contract at the Allianz Stadium, according to La Gazzetta dello Sport.

The newspaper underlines that the BBC of Juventus, Gianluigi Buffon, Leonardo Bonucci and Chiellini are planning for the future with the Old Lady.

Both Buffon and Chiellini are on expiring contracts, but previous reports have understood that the veteran goalkeeper, turning 43 during next season, has already agreed to stay on with the Bianconeri.

Buffon hasn't decided about renewal

Agent Silvano Martina has revealed that Juventus veteran Gianluigi Buffon has 'yet to decide' if he will play on beyond this summer.

The goalkeeper has turned 42 this year and the inevitable retirement from football could present itself already after the current season.

In December he seemed adamant to stay put and work hard for more silverware with the Old Lady, but his agent has revealed that they haven’t decided anything.

Probable line-ups: SPAL vs Juventus

Juventus goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon could make history today if he plays against SPAL, whilst Cristiano Ronaldo is set to make his 1,000th appearance as a professional player.

Buffon is currently on 647 league games in Serie A, equalling Paolo Maldini’s record that was set in 2009.

With the Bianconeri playing in the Champions League against Lyon next week, regular stopper Wojciech Szczesny may be rested.

Shoud that be the case, and Buffon starts, he would stand alone as Serie A’s most represented player.

Buffon: 'I hope Sarri stays'

Gianluigi Buffon felt Juventus needed a “change” and “hopes” Maurizio Sarri will stay at the Allianz Stadium, “because that will mean we’ll have won something”.

Juventus are currently top of the League, fighting for a place in the Final of the Coppa Italia and prepare to face Olympique Lyonnais in the last 16 of the Champions League.

But Maurizio Sarri has still been criticised during his first year in charge of the team and lately the Old Lady have been linked with Manchester City coach Pep Guardiola.

Buffon in coronavirus controversy

Juventus star Gigi Buffon caused controversy when greeting a Chinese fan after the Coppa Italia semi-final with Milan and joking about the coronavirus.

There is video circulating online of Buffon signing autographs in the mixed zone following last night’s match at San Siro.

“I’m watching you, eh? Corona, eh? Damn, are you from Wuhan?” said Buffon as those around them laughed.

He then showed it was not a genuine concern by touching the Chinese fan on the cheek as he winked and walked on to the next autograph.

Buffon: 'Older players make difference'

Gigi Buffon praised Cristiano Ronaldo and Zlatan Ibrahimovic, as the Juventus veteran isn’t the only one “making the difference” at a certain age.

The 42-year-old goalkeeper was probably Juve’s best performer in the Coppa Italia semi-final against Milan, making several key saves during the 1-1 draw at San Siro.

“The reason I am still playing is that I believe I can perform at a high level,” he told Rai Sport.

Official: Juve extend with Szczesny

Juventus have announced that Wojciech Szczesny has extended his deal at the Allianz Stadium until June 2024.

The Poland international arrived from Arsenal in 2017, after a stint on loan at Roma in the Italian capital, and after starting his Juventus career as back-up to Gianluigi Buffon, he is now the first choice between the sticks at the Old Lady.

“The wonderful adventure between Szczesny and Juventus will therefore continue until 2024 and there is no doubting this is a deserved renewal,” the club wrote on their official website.

Marchisio: 'Buffon a true icon'

Former Juventus midfielder Claudio Marchisio says Gigi Buffon was “my one true captain” and explains how he got his ‘Il Principino’ nickname.

Marchisio recently retired from the game due to on-going injuries at the age of 33, and gave a lengthy interview to DAZN about aspects of his career.

Marchisio played alongside Buffon for close to a decade, and has nothing but respect for the 42-year-old.

“Gigi is a real icon. The only one, in my opinion, he was my true captain,” Marchisio told DAZN.
