Buffon could play on until age 43

Gianluigi Buffon has no intention of retiring and could remain at Juventus until June 2021, according to Tuttosport, by which point he’d be 43.

It would be a remarkable turnaround, considering the goalkeeper was let go in the summer of 2018 because he could not be guaranteed regular playing time.

He spent one season at Paris Saint-Germain before returning to Turin, where he so far has three Serie A games under his belt.

Agent: 'Buffon can play until 44'

Gigi Buffon’s agent maintains the Juventus goalkeeper can carry on for another two years, while revealing why Edin Dzeko snubbed Inter.

“It was the right move because he is still competitive and strong,” the agent told Sportitalia.

“I think he’ll have the chances to play this season and I believe he can play for another couple of years, take it up to the age of 44.

More than a Derby d'Italia

Football Italia’s Chief Correspondent Richard Hall asks if this Inter side really has what it takes to topple Juventus or does history already tell the story?

“Juventus won eight Serie A titles in a row, often winning hands down.” Antonio Conte continued that he was glad to have 18 points out of 18 as Inter’s impressive start was the best they have managed since 1966-67. The Nerazzurri are certainly throwing their hat into the ring and the ex-Bianconeri boss is definitely calling out his old team. There is a title challenge, that is for sure, but that is a brave thing to do.
