Buffon: 'Flamengo called me'

Gigi Buffon confirms he received an offer from Brazilian club Flamengo, but is aiming to continue his career ‘much closer to home’ after leaving Juventus.

The goalkeeper is 43 years old and announced he will not be staying at Juve beyond the end of this season.

Many different options have been mentioned, including Atalanta, Roma and Barcelona.

Atalanta or Roma for Buffon?

There are various different options for Gianluigi Buffon to continue his career after leaving Juventus, including Atalanta and Roma.

The goalkeeper turned 43 in January, but showed with yesterday’s penalty save on Sassuolo’s Domenico Berardi that he can still make the difference.

He announced he is leaving the Bianconeri at the end of this season, but has not yet decided if he’ll hang up his gloves.

Barcelona call on Buffon?

Gianluigi Buffon announced he will leave Juventus, but it’s reported he’ll continue playing with Barcelona offering the 43-year-old a deal.

The goalkeeper confirmed this is the end of the road in his second spell at Juve, although he did not state whether he would hang up his gloves.

According to Footmercato, an intriguing option would be to have an experience in Spain with Barcelona and the French site claims there has been direct contact.

Buffon: 'I gave everything to Juventus'

Gianluigi Buffon confirmed his goodbye to Juventus with an Instagram post. ‘I gave everything. I received even more in return.’

The goalkeeper had already left for PSG in 2018-19, only to return a year later.

Now aged 43, the Italy legend has not necessarily retired from football, but he is walking away from Juventus.

“Every beginning also has an end. This is the end of my second half at Juve,” wrote Buffon on Instagram.

The 43-year-old’s own future is uncertain, but he has opened an academy to train youngsters by transmitting his experience and bringing boys and girls closer to the role of being a goalkeeper.
