Mancini: 'Italy not far off the best'

Roberto Mancini maintains Italy are “not that far off the strongest European teams” after a perfect qualifying campaign for Euro 2020. "I tried to make these players believe in themselves."

The Azzurri beat Greece 2-0 last night to secure their spot in the tournament with a 100 per cent record of seven wins in Group J, all with three games to spare.

Buffon: 'No plans to retire yet'

Gigi Buffon admits he would “only accept being second choice for Juventus” and will take an Italy swansong when he eventually decides to retire.

The 41-year-old shows no signs of slowing down and was today named UN Goodwill Ambassador for the World Food Programme.

After the event, he also spoke to reporters about his current career path and the return to Juve after one season with Paris Saint-Germain.

Buffon named UN Ambassador

Gianluigi Buffon has been named UN Goodwill Ambassador for the World Food Programme, but assured he is “still a football player and a competitive one at that.”

The Juventus goalkeeper announced the new title in a Press conference this evening.

“I was very proud to receive the call and accepted quickly, as I love a challenge,” said Buffon.

Buffon: 'Messi-Ronaldo, Federer-Nadal'

Gigi Buffon named his sporting heroes and explained why Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo are the Roger Federer and Rafa Nadal of football.

The Juventus goalkeeper spoke to La Gazzetta dello Sport magazine Sportweek about the figures he looks up to, including swimming champion Federica Pellegrini.

“The top of the list is without doubt Alex Zanardi. Few would’ve got back on their feet, as it were, even without legs. He teaches us the importance of the mind, as that rules everything.

Buffon: 'Inter-Juve for the Scudetto'

Gianluigi Buffon is “happy and proud” to have beaten Paolo Maldini’s record, while preparing Juventus for the “Scudetto battle” with Antonio Conte’s Inter.

The goalkeeper started Saturday’s 2-0 win over SPAL, which represented his 903rd game at club level, more than any other Italian and surpassing Milan legend Maldini’s 902.
