Ronaldo: 'Never wanted to leave Inter'

Ronaldo reveals he “never wanted to leave Inter,” but felt forced to walk away when the club backed Hector Cuper after their Scudetto collapse.

“That Inter was a fantastic team. Along with Bobo Vieri, we had Clarence Seedorf and many other talents. Unfortunately, the injuries prevented me from sharing the field with Vieri that many times,” Ronaldo said via videolink in the Festival dello Sport.

The Juventification of Inter

While Beppe Marotta and Antonio Conte bring the Juventus blueprint, Football Italia Chief Correspondent Richard Hall also harks back to Inter’s past.

Hiring Giuseppe Marotta after he was ousted by Juventus at the end of seven consecutive Serie A titles was a shock move for Inter. Adding former Bianconeri Coach Antonio Conte confirmed the Nerazzurri had decided if they couldn’t beat them, they’d hire’em, or at least the people who laid the foundations for the juggernaut we see today.

Moratti: Sensi like Sneijder

Former Inter owner Massimo Moratti admits “I didn’t expect Stefano Sensi to be so good”, comparing him to Wesley Sneijder.

Sensi has made an instant impact at Inter since arriving from Sassuolo over the summer, scoring two goals in his first three appearances and holding his own in Antonio Conte’s midfield.

“The Zhang family members are very kind, both Steven and his father,” Moratti told Corriere dello Sport.

Moratti: 'Can't lose San Siro'

Former Inter President Massimo Moratti understands the need for a modern stadium, but cannot conceive of Milan without the San Siro structure.

Both Inter and Milan are eager to build their own arena, which would involve tearing down the iconic Stadio Giuseppe Meazza, but the plans on what to do and when remain extremely hazy.

“It should be sorted out straight away, so it’s only right that all the authorities, but above all the people of Milan, know what the final projects and scenarios are,” Moratti told the Corriere della Sera newspaper.

'Oriali & Conte ideal for Inter'

Massimo Moratti has praised Inter for bringing back Gabriele Oriali, while describing new boss Antonio Conte as a ‘good’ choice.

Conte has replaced Luciano Spalletti as Coach and is set to reunite with his Italy team manager Oriali, who is known for his long association with the Nerazzurri on and off the field.

“I’m convinced that returns are welcome, above all in his case because he’s a person absolutely linked to Inter in terms of history, tradition and character,” Moratti told ANSA.

Moratti: Why not two stadia?

Massimo Moratti has urged Inter and Milan not to knock down San Siro, explaining that ‘it wouldn’t hurt to have two stadiums.’

The two Milan clubs are reportedly ready to demolish San Siro and replace it with a new, 60,000-seater stadium, but Moratti insists the long-standing venue has too much history.

“I’m really sorry that we’re thinking of knocking down San Siro for more than one reason,” the former Nerazzurri President told Il Giorno.

Wanda: 'Icardi distraught at armband'

Wanda Nara was in tears as she confessed Mauro Icardi was distraught at losing the Inter captaincy. “It was like taking away a leg. It is not our intention to leave.”

She is something of an incongruous figure for Icardi, as she is his wife, his agent and also a TV presenter with her own career on Mediaset sports review show Tiki Taka.

It was on this programme last week that her comments infuriated the Inter directors and Icardi’s teammates.
