Serie B: Foggia hire Grassadonia

Serie B side Foggia have announced their new Coach, appointing Gianluca Grassadonia.

The tactician put pen to paper on a deal holding him to Foggia until June 2020.

The 46-year-old had been on the Pro Vercelli bench until May 7.

His previous clubs include Salernitana, Messina and Paganese.

It is a return, as Grassadonia wore the Foggia jersey during his playing career from 1992 to 1994.

He spent most of his playing career at Cagliari.

Stroppa to be Crotone Coach

Crotone have reportedly found their new Coach, poaching Giovanni Stroppa from Foggia.

Following their relegation to Serie B, the Calabrese are parting company with Walter Zenga.

According to Sportitalia, he will be replaced by Stroppa, who was spotted having dinner with President Gianni Vrenna and director of sport Giuseppe Ursino.

The 50-year-old spent much of his playing career at Milan and also started coaching in their youth academy.

He then moved on to Sud Tirol, Pescara, Spezia and since the summer of 2016 Foggia.

Investigation into Parma promotion

There are reports an investigation is underway into the Serie B game against Spezia that saw Parma secure promotion.

Sportitalia and the Corriere dello Sport claim the FIGC has been looking into the match and have seen enough evidence to pursue the matter further.

Parma won 2-0 away to Spezia with two goals from Amato Ciciretti.

When it was still at 1-0, Spezia were awarded a penalty, which ex-Parma striker Alberto Gilardino blasted over the bar.

Signori: 'At 50 older, not wiser'

Beppe Signori celebrates his 50th birthday today and looks back over his career. “If it had been plain sailing, it wouldn’t have been fun.”

The former Foggia, Lazio, Sampdoria and Bologna hitman saw out his career overseas with Iraklis in Greece and Hungarians FC Sopron before retiring in 2008.

“They say that at this age you are meant to get wise, but I'm still waiting,” he joked on Radio Deejay.

Foggia owner arrested

Foggia owner Fedele Sannella has been arrested in connection with alleged money laundering.

The club has already been accused of tax fraud, with prosecutors alleging that honorary vice-President Ruggiero Massimo Curci paid players and staff in cash to avoid paying tax.

Yesterday in Rome though Sannella was arrested, accused of receiving and laundering some of the money which arose from Curci’s activities.

In total €378,750 is alleged to have been used to pay players, coaches and agents under the table, with Curci arrested in December.

Venezia accuse Foggia in Presidential brawl

Venezia and Foggia released conflicting statements after their Presidents brawled in the stands following a Serie B game.

Last night’s 2-2 draw was a dramatic affair, as hosts Foggia were 2-0 down until the 87th minute and staged a last-gasp comeback.

Following that equaliser, Foggia President Franco Sannella and Venezia patron Joe Tacopina had a physical altercation in the stands, including pushing, shoving and slaps.

It was a dramatic 2-2 draw as Foggia wiped out a 2-0 deficit against Venezia in stoppages, but the club Presidents also got into a physical altercation.

Foggia accused of tax fraud

Roberto De Zerbi’s lawyer maintains the Benevento Coach’s “absolute non-involvement” as Foggia are accused of paying players and staff under the table to avoid tax.

A warrant has been issued for the arrest of the club’s accountant, Gazzetta dello Sport reports, as he’s accused of avoiding tax.

The newspaper reports that both De Zerbi and Pietro Iemmello were beneficiaries, with the former allegedly paid €15,050.

It’s alleged that honorary vice-President Ruggiero Massimo Curci paid in cash to avoid tax.

Gattuso and De Zerbi meet again

Milan’s trip to Benevento sees Gennaro Gattuso face Roberto De Zerbi, with the last meeting in the Lega Pro play-offs in 2016.

Ringhio has been appointed as Rossoneri Coach after Vincenzo Montella was sacked, and today is his first match on the bench.

In the other dugout is De Zerbi, who is looking to win the Stregoni their first ever Serie A point after a run of 14 defeats.

This isn’t the first time the two Coaches have met though, as they were on opposing sides for the Lega Pro (third division) play-off final.
