Allegri still Bayern favourite

Max Allegri remains the favourite to take the Bayern Munich job after Bild report the club rejected Arsene Wenger.

The German giants are currently third in the Bundesliga, although they have already qualified for the Champions League Round of 16.

They parted company with Niko Kovac this week by mutual consent and are expected to appoint a replacement during the break for international duty.

According to Bild, Wenger called up Bayern chief Karl-Heinz Rummenigge to offer his services, but was told he is not on their short-list of options.

The former Juventus boss is biding his time before starting a new adventure, having ended his spell in Turin with five consecutive Serie A titles.

According to the Corriere dello Sport, Allegri is the prime candidate for the Bayern Munich job if the Germans sack Niko Kovac.

That is more than a possibility after a shock 5-1 defeat to Eintracht Frankfurt this weekend.

He’ll now take a year off before returning to the bench, and is spending time in his hometown of Livorno.

“Before dissolving things with Juventus, I came home for three days,” Allegri explained to LivornoSera.it.

Allegri to Spurs or Bayern?

Max Allegri is being linked with the Tottenham Hotspur bench – in an exchange with Mauricio Pochettino to Juventus – and Bayern Munich job.

It was announced on Friday that the tactician would not be seeing out the final season of his contract in Turin, as Juve decided to go in a different direction.

There are now mixed reports on his next destination, but despite interest from Roma, it seems unlikely he’d remain in Serie A after five consecutive Scudetto trophies.
