Kalinic: Why I failed at Milan...

Nikola Kalinic believes arriving late, injuries and being one of 11 new players were to blame for his disappointing spell at Milan.

Kalinic was one of Milan’s most expensive signings in the summer of 2017, arriving from Fiorentina on loan with a €25m obligation to buy, but scored just six goals for the Rossoneri.

The Croatia striker has since joined Atletico Madrid, although he made it clear he bore no ill-feeling towards the Diavolo.

“For me, it was difficult,” he told AS.

Silva still a stranger to Italy

Andre Silva has a point to prove with Portugal against Italy, as Richard Hall wonders where it went wrong for him at Milan.

As Andre Silva wheeled away in celebration after completing his debut hat-trick against Rayo Vallecano, many in Portugal, Spain and especially Italy, scratched their heads. The Portuguese forward had started his La Liga campaign by showing that he could fulfil the promise in him, but why could he not do this for the Rossoneri?

Why did a player with such obvious talent fail to make a mark in Serie A? This leads to the question of whether the Milanese moved him on to quickly, or was this union simply never going to work?

‘Fighter’ Kalinic unveiled by Atleti

Nikola Kalinic is ready to ‘fight’ with Diego Costa and Antoine Griezmann after being unveiled as Atletico Madrid’s new No 9.

Kalinic scored just six goals for Milan last season, but the former Fiorentina striker is confident Atleti’s more physical style of play under Diego Simeone will suit him better.

“I hope to do the maximum for this club and help them achieve all their objectives. We have many of them,” began the Croat.

Former Milan striker Nikola Kalinic has vowed to do his talking on the pitch after becoming Atletico Madrid’s No 9.

Kalinic becomes Atleti No 9

Former Milan striker Nikola Kalinic will wear Atletico Madrid’s No 9 shirt this season.

Kalinic takes the jersey last worn by another ex-Milan forward Fernando Torres, who left Atleti over the summer to sign for Japanese club Sagan Tosu.

The Spaniards’ official website notes ‘it isn’t a new number for the battering ram’, given he also had it at Hajduk Split, Blackburn Rovers, Dnipro and Fiorentina.

However, he wore the No 7 jersey at San Siro, during a 2017-18 season that spawned just six goals from the 30-year-old.

Kalinic brings Milan profit

Though Milan will make a loss on Nikola Kalinic in terms of transfer fee, his sale will still bring a €10m bonus on the balance sheet.

The Croatian is set to join Atletico Madrid, and is in Spain for a medical today.

The Rossoneri paid a total of €22.5m for the striker who joined just last summer, arriving on an initial loan with an obligation to buy.

Football clubs break down the cost of a transfer fee over the length of a contract, with a player’s book value depreciating over the length of that contract.

Kalinic’s Atleti medical tomorrow

Milan striker Nikola Kalinic is set to complete his transfer to Atletico Madrid on Tuesday.

Gianluca Di Marzio’s website reports Kalinic will undergo a medical with Atleti, before putting pen to paper on a season-long loan with an obligation to buy.

The Croatian recently had his loan to the Rossoneri made permanent for €25m, but his return of just six goals last season has warranted the club to look elsewhere.

The 30-year-old will join Los Colchoneros as a direct replacement for Valencia-bound Kevin Gameiro.

Leonardo: ‘Milinkovic-Savic impossible’

Milan technical director Leonardo admits it’s “impossible” to sign Sergej Milinkovic-Savic from Lazio this summer.

The Rossoneri have been linked with a move for the Serbian, but his price tag means a move to San Siro can’t happen, at least this summer.

“In light of Financial Fair Play we won’t be signing a top midfielder,” Leonardo explained at Paolo Maldini’s presentation Press conference.
