Roma and Napoli in for Diego Costa

Roma and Napoli are reportedly in contact with Diego Costa’s representatives to convince the Atletico Madrid forward about a move to Serie A.

According to the Spanish newspaper Mundo Deportivo, the two clubs have been in touch with the player’s entourage to bring the Spanish 31-year-old to Italy.

Nikola Kalinic is set to return to Atleti and the report claims the Giallorossi could make a move for the 31-year-old, who they also tried to sign in 2013 and 2018.

Fonseca: 'Roma suffered too much'

Paulo Fonseca was pleased with Nikola Kalinic and Gonzalo Villar performances in the 4-3 win over Cagliari, but Roma “didn’t need to suffer so much.”

Joao Pedro had put the Sardinians in front, but Nikola Kalinic turned it around with a brace, assisted Justin Kluivert and Aleksandar Kolarov scored with a direct free kick.

The Giallorossi thought it was over, but a couple of late goals set up a tense finale for the 4-3 result.

Kalinic: 'Happy at Roma'

Nikola Kalinic said he is “happy” at Roma after scoring his first goals for the club in today’s 4-3 victory away to Cagliari.

The centre-forward bagged a brace, his first in Serie A since 2017, and also set up Justin Kluivert with an assist.

“I played the way I always do, trying to give 100 per cent for the team,” the Croatia international told Sky Sport Italia.

Probable line-ups: Cagliari vs Roma

Nikola Kalinic is expected to start for Roma against Cagliari, in his first league start since October.

Giallorossi coach Paulo Fonseca is expected to retain the majority of the same side who earned a 1-1 draw against Gent in the Europa League on Thursday.

Kalinic will play behind Edin Dzeko, and should be flanked by Cengiz Under and Carles Perez.

Federico Fazio should come in for Gianluca Mancini, who is out through suspension.

Jordan Veretout and Bryan Cristante are expected to line up in the middle of the park for Roma.

Petrachi: 'Coppa important to Roma'

Roma director of sport Gianluca Petrachi noted the importance of the Coppa Italia this season and the future forwards for the club.

Kalinic rejects Newcastle?

Roma striker Nikola Kalinic has rejected the chance to join Newcastle United after previously turning down moves to Genoa and Verona.

The Croat is on loan at the Giallorossi from Spanish side Atletico Madrid but hasn’t made much of an impact in the capital.

Now, Tuttomercatoweb reports Kalinic has rejected an offer from Premier League side Newcastle and wants to stay at Roma.

It comes on the heels of the 31-year-old rebuffing proposals from Verona and Genoa, as per Corriere dello Sport.
