Bonucci: 'Not up to Juventus standards'

Leonardo Bonucci admits Juventus results ‘have not been up to our standards lately’ after a 2-0 Champions League home defeat to Barcelona.

The Bianconeri were unlucky to see three Alvaro Morata goals ruled offside, but also offered precious little else in attack against a largely dominant Barca side.

Juventus’ squad list to face Barcelona

Leonardo Bonucci could start this evening’s Champions League clash against Barcelona as the Italian defender has been included in the Old Lady’s squad list to face the Blaugrana.

Bonucci had picked up a minor muscle injury on Sunday against Verona and trained apart from the rest of the team yesterday.

The Italy international, however, seems to have recovered from his injury as he’s been included in Andrea Pirlo’s squad list to face Barcelona.

Pirlo: 'Juve must sacrifice themselves'

Juventus coach Andrea Pirlo waits for Cristiano Ronaldo’s test results and said he will ‘count on the players available to sacrifice themselves’ against Barcelona.

Pirlo said the Old Lady expect the test results from Cristiano Ronaldo’s last swab for coronavirus tonight but doesn’t know if the Portugal international starts even if he tests negative.

“We must wait for the outcome [from Ronaldo’s test], I think the result will come tonight,” Pirlo said at a press conference.

Juve: Bonucci not in group training

Juventus await the result from Cristiano Ronaldo’s decisive swab test and Leonardo Bonucci trained separately from the group.

Coach Andrea Pirlo has defensive problems ahead of the match against Barcelona and reports in Italian media suggest Weston McKennie could be a temporary solution against the Blaugrana in the Champions League.

But Bonucci, who had to leave the pitch against Hellas Verona with muscle problems, couldn’t participate in training with the rest of the group today.

Juventus: No muscle injury for Bonucci

Juventus have announced tests have revealed Leonardo Bonucci has not suffered a serious muscle injury.

The defender had to leave the pitch against Hellas Verona last night due to problems with his muscle and this morning the Bianconeri defender underwent tests to study the extent of the problem.

The Old Lady have issued a statement of the outcome from the medical examinations.

Pirlo: 'Juve shouldn't need slap to wake up'

Andrea Pirlo warns Juventus ‘shouldn’t need a slap in the face to wake up and play with intensity’ after their 1-1 draw with Hellas Verona.

The fact remains, the Bianconeri have won only one Serie A match on the field this season, their first 3-0 against Sampdoria.

They drew with Roma, Crotone and Verona, while the Napoli fixture was handed to them 3-0 after it was cancelled.

Bonucci: 'Holland fear Italy'

Leonardo Bonucci notes the Dutch tactical transformation ‘means they respect and fear’ Italy after a 1-1 draw.

Lorenzo Pellegrini’s goal was cancelled out by Donny van de Beek, but Frank de Boer surprised many by abandoning the 4-3-3 formation for a 5-3-2.

“This means they respect and fear us,” noted Bonucci on RAI Sport.

“Despite their tactical changes, we still created numerous chances, even if it was tougher to pass it around in midfield, as they were man-marking our creative figures Jorginho and Marco Verratti.

Pirlo orchestrates a perfect Juve debut

Andrea Pirlo’s coaching career kicked off in practically perfect fashion and Vilizar Yakimov is already impressed by Il Maestro and his Juventus symphony.

A breath of fresh air. That’s how their Serie A opener against Sampdoria felt for those who support Juventus, as both fans and players desperately needed a change after the awkward reign of Maurizio Sarri.

From the very beginning of the game it almost seemed like the Bianconeri were just liberated after being held in a cage, as every single player in black and white was brimming with energy, desire and confidence. While those on the pitch performed to a very high level, much of the credit should be given to Andrea Pirlo, who made some bold choices.
