Bastoni the best man for Conte's Inter

Inter kept a third consecutive clean sheet and Alessandro Bastoni confirmed he’s the ideal defender for Antonio Conte, writes Kaustubh Pandey.

Inter’s 2-0 win over Napoli on Tuesday wasn’t exactly the most entertaining or thrilling game in Serie A this season. It was a clash involving a club that has lost out on the purpose of winning the Scudetto and a side that has qualified for Europa League football anyway. But the game was perhaps a reminder of how good Alessandro Bastoni can be for Inter and Antonio Conte’s system. And the performance came in the absence of Milan Skriniar, who was rested on the night despite all the speculation surrounding the Slovakian.

Inter lose De Vrij for Genoa

Inter must make do without Stefan de Vrij against Genoa after the defender suffered a knee sprain.

De Vrij made an early exit from the 0-0 draw with Fiorentina but, as per Gazzetta dello Sport, tests showed the Dutchman sustained only a ‘slight sprain’ to his knee.

Therefore, while he will miss Inter’s trip to Genoa on Saturday, he should be back to face Serie A rivals Napoli next week.

The 28-year-old has been a virtual ever-present for the Nerazzurri this season, making 40 appearances in all competitions.

De Vrij: 'Inter showed character'

Stefan de Vrij is ‘disappointed’ with the 2-2 draw away to Roma, but insists Inter ‘showed character to get back into it.’

The Nerazzurri took the lead through De Vrij’s header, were turned around by Leonardo Spinazzola and Henrikh Mkhitaryan, only for Spinazzola’s comical error to gift a Romelu Lukaku penalty.

“We came here to put pressure on Juventus and close to within three points. It’s disappointing,” De Vrij told Sky Sport Italia.

De Vrij believes in 'decisive' Eriksen

Inter defender Stefan de Vrij has claimed Christian Eriksen will ‘become decisive’ at San Siro: “He’s getting used to the way we play and is learning the language.”

The Dane arrived from Tottenham Hotspur in January and struggled to make an immediate impact for Antonio Conte’s side, who currently sit third in Serie A ahead of the resumption.

But the playmaker, who scored from a direct corner against Napoli in the Coppa Italia, has reportedly convinced during training and could claim a starting position going forward.

Opta's best XI Serie A 2019-20

Six teams are represented in Opta’s best XI in Serie A 2019-20, with Milan left-back Theo Hernandez and Napoli midfielder Fabian Ruiz the only two outside the teams among the top four.

Juventus are the most represented club through their four players in the 4-2-3-1 formation based on Opta’s statistics during the first 26 rounds of Serie A 2019-20.

Cristiano Ronaldo is unsurprisingly on the side after his 21 goals in 22 games this term and Wojciech Szczesny is between the sticks in the top 11 this term.
