Torino go for Mario Rui

Torino are reportedly preparing a €13m bid for Napoli left-back Mario Rui and are ready to exercise their €10m option on Chelsea’s Ola Aina.

According to Tuttosport, Toro Coach Mazzarri has asked President Urbano Cairo to bring in the Portugal international this summer.

The 28-year-old has fallen out of favour at the San Paolo this season, while receiving heavy criticism from the home crowd, and his agent recently confirmed his exit.

Mazzarri: Toro on right track

Torino Coach Walter Mazzarri believes his team are on the ‘right track’ and can improve with two or three new signings.

The Granata beat Lazio 3-1 at home on Sunday afternoon, in what was effectively a dead rubber as neither side had anything to play for.

Nonetheless, they finished the season seventh in Serie A on 63 points - a new club record since Serie A went to three points for a win.

Mazzarri: All credit to Empoli

Walter Mazzarri did not ‘expect’ Torino to be thrashed 4-1 by Empoli but admits the Tuscans were fully deserving of their win.

As well as boosting Empoli’s hopes of another season in Serie A, the result leaves Toro relying on Lazio to finish in the top six if they are to qualify for the Europa League as the seventh-placed team.

“We didn’t start well, but we have to give credit to Empoli. They have beaten some big teams at their ground,” Mazzarri said after the game.

Mazzarri eyes Bigon reunion

Torino Coach Walter Mazzarri could reunite with current Bologna sporting director Riccardo Bigon, who he previously worked with at Reggina and Napoli.

According to website calcionews24.com, the pair could find themselves working together once again, if sporting director Gianluca Petrachi leaves the Granata in the summer.

Petrachi has been heavily linked with a move away from Torino, with Roma leading the chase for the 50-year-old former Nottingham Forest midfielder.

Torino target Mario Rui

Torino are reportedly interested in signing Napoli left-back Mario Rui for €14m, but face competition from Benfica and Sporting CP.

According to Tuttosport, Toro Coach Walter Mazzarri is a fan of the 27-year-old and has included him on his list of reinforcements, if his side qualifies for next season’s Europa League.

The former Empoli and Roma defender earns around €2m a year at the Stadio San Paolo, and his contract there runs until 2022.

Mazzarri: 'Finally a Torino comeback'

Walter Mazzarri celebrated Torino’s dramatic turnaround against 10-man Sassuolo and a new points record, but “we still don’t know if we’re in Europe.”
