Sabatini: ‘Couldn’t work at Inter’

Walter Sabatini laments “it wasn’t possible” to work at Inter, and left because “the Chinese no longer listened to me”.

The Sampdoria technical director was brought in to co-ordinate between the Nerazzurri and Jiangsu Suning, but he stepped down earlier this year.

Today he gave a lengthy interview to the Corriere dello Sport, who asked what he’ll remember from his time with the Beneamata.

“The fans,” Sabatini replied.

Sabatini: ‘Pallotta is insecure’

Former Roma sporting director Walter Sabatini calls President James Pallotta “an insecure man”.

The famed transfer guru is now technical director at Sampdoria, but he still retains a love for the Giallorossi thanks to his time in the capital.

“I’m trying to heal from the Roma disease, I can’t carry it with me all my life,” Sabatini told Corriere dello Sport.

“Roma is not a team, it’s a state of being in your soul. I can’t carry that with me for all my life.

Sabatini: ‘Ronaldo will improve calcio’

Sampdoria technical director Walter Sabatini calls Juventus’ signing of Cristiano Ronaldo “lucid madness which will enrich all of Italian football”.

The Ballon d’Or has signed for the Bianconeri in a €100m deal, and the former Roma sporting director believes that can only be good for Italian football.

“It was lucid madness which will enrich all of Italian football and intensify Juve immeasurably,” Sabatini told Corriere dello Sport.

“It took crazy courage just to even think about this deal.”

Sabatini 'enjoying Samp role'

Sampdoria director Walter Sabatini said he is enjoying his new job, as “the prospects are different to Roma and Inter, so I have more fun.”

The chain-smoking technical director is relishing the role in the port city of Genoa.

“The sea air will be good for my lungs,” he told Rai Radio Due.

“We are working on a project that already exists, so I am called to resolve problems that aren’t here. What Samp want is to be more competitive and not rest on our laurels the way we did last season. We want a little more.

Samp eye Chapecoense 'keeper

Sampdoria are interested in picking up Chapecoense goalkeeper Jandrei to replace Emiliano Viviano.

According to Sky Sport Italia, new director of sport Walter Sabatini is looking towards Brazil for his shot-stopper.

Jandrei Chitolina Carniel is a 25-year-old who joined Chapecoense in January 2018 from Clube Atletico Tubarao.

Sabatini joins Sampdoria

Sampdoria have officially confirmed the appointment of Walter Sabatini as their new technical director.

Daniele Prade left the role last week to take up the same position at Udinese, and he’ll be replaced by the former Roma sporting director.

“Sabatini, one of the greatest connoisseurs of Italian and international football, with professional experience of the highest level, will take over the rule of technical director from July 1,” a statement on the Blucerchiati’s website confirms.

Massara returns to Roma

Director Frederic ‘Ricky’ Massara has returned to Roma and joined Monchi’s staff after leaving Inter.

The comeback had been in the air and was confirmed via the club’s official Twitter account.

Massara had worked at Roma for six years under previous Giallorossi director of sport Walter Sabatini and left the club to follow him to Inter and Suning.

When Sabatini resigned a few weeks ago, it left Massara free and ready for a return to the Stadio Olimpico.
