Report: Benatia to miss Udinese

Juventus defender Medhi Benatia will reportedly miss Sunday’s match against Udinese with a bruised ankle.

Benatia was replaced midway through Juve’s 2-1 win against Sporting CP on Wednesday, and Tuttosport claims tests showed ‘heavy’ bruising to his left ankle.

Although “it seems unlikely that he can recover” for the trip to Udine, the newspaper expects him to ‘definitely’ return against SPAL next weekend.

Benatia: ‘Juventus are stronger’

Medhi Benatia believes “Juventus are even stronger than last year” and dreams of scoring in the Champions League final.

The Bianconeri came within 90 minutes of the treble last season, but lost Dani Alves and Leonardo Bonucci over the summer.

Despite the departures of those key men though, the centre-back believes he’s in a stronger side now.

“Juventus are even stronger than last year, I truly believe that,” Benatia said in an interview with JTV.

Benatia: 'Juve helped Bonucci'

Medhi Benatia warns Leonardo Bonucci succeeded at Juventus “thanks also to Andrea Barzagli, Giorgio Chiellini and the rest.”

The Morocco international has effectively taken over after Bonucci’s surprise summer transfer to Milan.

“I don’t think Bonucci’s departure has anything to do with the number of goals we’ve conceded so far this season,” Benatia told Mediaset Premium.

Did Allegri choose Roma stars?

There are reports Juventus Coach Max Allegri urged Roma to buy Radja Nainggolan, Kevin Strootman and Medhi Benatia when he was close to them.

Allegri has never denied he was on the verge of accepting the bench at the Stadio Olimpico before the club opted for Rudi Garcia in 2013.

It seems his negotiations with the Giallorossi were taken to heart even if he didn’t eventually take the job.

“When Allegri was in the Roma orbit, he urged them to buy Benatia, Nainggolan and Strootman,” Rai Sport commentator Francesco Repice told TMW Radio.

Roma a boutique supermarket

The customary Giallorossi overhaul has begun and Monchi fits perfectly into their selling philosophy, writes Nick Valerio, whether the fans like it or not.

Monchi said “Roma are not a supermarket,” but that’s not entirely accurate. What he meant to say was “Roma are not Poundland.” The wares are in the shop window alright, but with boutique prices that won’t be haggled down.

As Mohamed Salah embarks on a second stint in the Premier League with Liverpool, there will be mixed emotions in the capital. On one hand, the Egyptian was one of Roma’s best players, and had struck up a devastating partnership with hitman Edin Dzeko.

But the money offered was simply too good to refuse.
