Juve blast Rai over Benatia incident

Juventus and Medhi Benatia hit back at Rai Sport’s “factually unbelievable and technically implausible” explanation for a racist insult.

The incident occurred after last night’s 1-1 draw with Torino, when Benatia via video link was listening to the studio on an ear-piece.

He heard a racist insult through the ear-piece, so many presumed it was a technician who had his microphone on and hadn’t realised he would be heard.

TV airs racist insult to Benatia

Juventus defender Medhi Benatia stormed out of a Rai Sport interview when someone made a racist remark.

The Morocco international was speaking to Rai after the 1-1 draw with Torino, which saw Afriyie Acquah controversially sent off for two yellow cards.

Just as Benatia started explaining that he thought these were indeed bookable offences, a voice was heard in his earpiece that said: “What are you talking about? Moroccan ****.”

What next for Coman and Benatia?

Juventus and Bayern Munich will meet over the next few weeks to discuss the futures of Kingsley Coman and Medhi Benatia.

Their situations are in flux, as Coman is coming to the end of a two-season loan worth €7m and Bayern have an option to buy the 20-year-old striker for another €21m.

Juve paid €3m to have Benatia on loan and have an option to make that move permanent for another €17m.

The deadlines are approaching to activate those options or let them expire and send the players back to their parent clubs.

Juve opt for Benatia over Chiellini?

Benatia injury 'not serious'

Medhi Benatia has avoided a serious injury to his thigh, but Juventus will be monitoring the situation daily.

The defender limped off during Tuesday’s Champions League victory over Porto.

Tests today confirmed there is a slight strain in the adductor region of the right thigh, but is not serious.

A statement from the club noted it will require daily monitoring and prudence ahead of more tests next week.

It’s unlikely Benatia will be risked for this weekend’s Serie A match against Sampdoria.
