Roma fight Juventus for Benatia?

Roma have reportedly entered the race for Medhi Benatia, but Juventus remain favourites.

The Bayern Munich defender appears certain to leave this summer, as the Bavarian side have already confirmed the signing of Mats Hummels.

Benatia left Roma to move to the Bundesliga in 2014, and La Repubblica believes a return to the capital is not impossible.

The newspaper reports that the Giallorossi are willing to offer a big loan fee, with the option to make the move permanent.

Benatia: 'If I leave Bayern Munich...'

Juventus transfer target Medhi Benatia noted “if I have to leave Bayern Munich, then I’ll leave” and criticised their Mats Hummels chase.

The former Roma defender’s future seems to be elsewhere, especially after Bayern confirmed they are in negotiations with Borussia Dortmund centre-back Hummels.

“I have no problem, if I have to leave Bayern Munich, then I’ll leave, but first I want to end this season well,” he told Sky Sport Italia.

Benatia agent: ‘No Juventus talks’

Medhi Benatia’s agent insists “there is nothing” with Juventus, despite links to the Bayern Munich defender.

Borussia Dortmund announced today that defender Mats Hummels had asked to leave and join the Bavarian side, meaning Benatia may be surplus to requirements.

It has been suggested that the Bianconeri are looking to take the centre-back on loan for a season, with a €23m buyout clause, but the player’s agent insists there’s been no contact.

Sabatini: 'Roma wanted Allegri'

Walter Sabatini reveals Max Allegri almost joined Roma in 2013, but wouldn’t advise Juventus to buy Medhi Benatia.

The Giallorossi director of sport spoke to Mediaset Premium and was asked if it was true that when Zdenek Zeman was fired in February 2013 there were four candidates.

Their names were Marcelo Bielsa, Laurent Blanc, Rudi Garcia and Allegri.

“I can confirm that. Allegri couldn’t free himself from the Milan contract,” said Sabatini.

Benatia opens Juve door

Juventus transfer target Mehdi Benatia opened the door. “If Bayern Munich want me to leave, that’s not a problem.”

The defender made the move from Roma in August 2014 for €28m, but has struggled for playing time and dealt with injury issues.

“I have another three years left on my contract. If Bayern want me to leave, then that’s not a problem,” the 29-year-old told German paper Kicker.

“If Bayern want me to stay, I will stay. The club knows I am a real professional.”
