Benatia in rape slur storm

Juventus defender Medhi Benatia is in a war of words with an Italian comedian, after he allegedly compared the penalty against Real Madrid to rape.

The Moroccan international was incensed when Lucas Vazquez was awarded a penalty in the Bernabeu in the 93rd minute, reportedly comparing it to a rape in the mixed zone after the final whistle.

This understandably caused great offence, and comedian Maurizio Crozza responded on his late night show.

Benatia: ‘Disgusted by football’

Juventus defender Medhi Benatia says he’s “more and more disgusted by the world of football” after Real Madrid’s penalty last night.

The centre-back was penalised for a challenge on Lucas Vazquez, with Michael Oliver pointing to the spot and Cristiano Ronaldo scoring to knock the Old Lady out.

“I’ve seen it in the match, I’ve seen it on the TV, you can’t whistle for a foul on this kind of action,” Benatia fumed, speaking to BeIn Sport France.

Madrid 1-3 Juventus: Italian reaction

The Italian media has reacted to Juventus’ Champions League elimination, with most condemning referee Michael Oliver for awarding a last-minute penalty against Real Madrid.

The Bianconeri were 3-0 up with the match heading to extra-time, but Medhi Benatia was adjudged to have fouled Lucas Vazquez in the box and Cristiano Ronaldo converted the penalty.

This morning’s Gazzetta dello Sport leads with “the rage and the pride”, and its match report continues on that theme.

Borderline at the Bernabeu

That last-gasp penalty for Real Madrid proved interpretation goes more along party lines than ever. Susy Campanale understands both sides

Italian football earned back some pride in Europe this week with Roma’s magnificent comeback and Juventus were about to repeat it 24 hours later. Leading 3-0, they certainly deserved to go to extra time and it was heart-breaking to see it all end on a debatable spot-kick 30 seconds from the final whistle. Unfortunately, what followed is tarnishing the memories of this performance.

No fine for Benatia

Juventus defender Medhi Benatia will reportedly avoid a fine after his argument with Massimiliano Allegri.

The Bianconeri moved four points clear of Napoli with a 2-0 win over Atalanta yesterday, but there was a minor touchline incident after the second goal.

In the build-up to the goal, Benatia tussled with Marten de Roon, with the Moroccan ending up with a ripped shirt.

Both were booked, meaning that the Juve man will miss their next match with Spal, and Benatia was still furious as he went to get a new shirt.

Benatia doubt for Udinese?

Medhi Benatia is reportedly a doubt for Juventus’ visit of Udinese in Serie A on Sunday with an ankle problem.

According to Premium Sport, Benatia took a blow to the ankle during Juve’s 2-1 win at Tottenham Hotspur in the Champions League on Wednesday.

The issue forced him to leave the game in the second half, but while the broadcaster notes the defender will be assessed “in the coming hours”, it expects him to still be called up for the match this weekend.
