Allegri: 'Napoli still Scudetto favourites'

Max Allegri insists Napoli are “still the Scudetto favourites” after Juventus conquered the Stadio San Paolo 1-0. “Winning games isn’t all about possession.”

Gonzalo Higuain got the only goal of the game, moving the Bianconeri to within a point of the Serie A leaders.

“It was a good test tonight, the lads had some favourable situations in the first half and took the lead,” Allegri told Mediaset Premium.

Benatia: 'Juve waited for Crotone to tire'

Medhi Benatia notes Juventus kept calm and waited for Crotone to tire before smashing the minnows 3-0.

“We ran few risks in the first half, but Crotone were very well-organised, they were all behind the ball and we had to keep the ball moving. Naturally, they got tired in the second half and we made the most of it to score the goals,” the defender told Mediaset Premium.

Juventus break down Crotone wall

Crotone frustrated Juventus, but they smashed their way through with Mario Mandzukic, Medhi Benatia and Mattia De Sciglio’s first ever goal.

The Bianconeri needed a boost after one point from their last two competitive games, but despite having 81% possession in the first half, they were locked on 0-0.

Benedikt Howedes was given his Serie A debut and was left with a bloody nose following an accidental collision with Ante Budimir.

Mandzukic finally got the breakthrough by steering in Andrea Barzagli’s cross with his looping header.

Benatia in line for Juve return

Medhi Benatia is reportedly in line to start Juventus’ Serie A match against Sampdoria on Sunday.

According to Tuttosport, Max Allegri has found a ‘new’ player at his disposal in Benatia after he fired Morocco to their first World Cup in 20 years last week.

The 30-year-old had not played for Juve since October 18 due to injury but has come back as “a Czar in defence”, writes the newspaper, given he could be the Bianconeri’s only centre-back going to Russia next summer.

Benatia sends Morocco to World Cup

Juventus defender Medhi Benatia was on target as Morocco qualified for the World Cup for the first time since 1998.

Benatia blasted in from a corner during the 2-0 victory away to the Ivory Coast.

That result eliminated the Ivorians from the tournament in Russia in 2018, while Tunisia also qualified at the expense of DR Congo.

Morocco have remarkably qualified from Group C without conceding a single goal.

Juve: Benatia out, De Sciglio in

Juventus have named Mattia De Sciglio in their squad to face Sporting CP on Tuesday, but there is still no Medhi Benatia.

De Sciglio is the only recognised right-back in Juve’s squad, with Stephan Lichtsteiner ineligible for the Champions League.

However, it remains to be seen whether he is fit enough to appear in Lisbon after staying on the substitutes’ bench for the Bianconeri’s last two games.

Sturaro & Benatia miss Juve training

Juventus have confirmed that Stefano Sturaro and Medhi Benatia did not train with the squad on Friday.

A statement on Juve’s official website explained Benatia had “a knock to his left ankle” from Wednesday’s 2-1 win against Sporting CP, while Sturaro had “a problem in his left thigh.”

The defender’s absence should see Daniele Rugani enter the Bianconeri’s line-up for the match against Udinese on Sunday, while Sturaro had been filling in at right-back.

Report: Benatia to miss Udinese

Juventus defender Medhi Benatia will reportedly miss Sunday’s match against Udinese with a bruised ankle.

Benatia was replaced midway through Juve’s 2-1 win against Sporting CP on Wednesday, and Tuttosport claims tests showed ‘heavy’ bruising to his left ankle.

Although “it seems unlikely that he can recover” for the trip to Udine, the newspaper expects him to ‘definitely’ return against SPAL next weekend.
