Ghoulam snubbed Napoli transfers

Faouzi Ghoulam reportedly turned down January moves to Marseille, Lille and Newcastle United, as he wants to prove himself at Napoli.

The Algeria international has been out of action since October due to injury, but is back in the squad for today’s trip to Cagliari.

According to the Corriere dello Sport, the 29-year-old had been put on the transfer market in January by his club.

It’s claimed there were proposals from Olympique Marseille, Lille and Newcastle United, but the left-back was not interested.

Under out, Politano in?

Roma have joined Napoli in tracking Inter winger Matteo Politano, which could in turn send Cengiz Under to Manchester United, it’s reported.

Politano’s lack of playing time under Antonio Conte suggests he’ll be on his way out of San Siro over the January transfer window, potentially on loan with option to buy.

Napoli had until now been the favourites, with a swap of six-month loans with either Fernando Llorente or Faouzi Ghoulam.

Report: Marseille want Ghoulam

Faouzi Ghoulam could leave Napoli in the January transfer window, with Olympique Marseille interested in the left-back, reports La Repubblica.

The Algerian has struggled to regain the form he showed prior to rupturing his ACL against Manchester City in the Champions League two seasons ago.

Ghoulam has been in and out of the starting XI ever since, as he’s tried to make his way back to full fitness.

Now, La Repubblica writes Partenopei boss Rino Gattuso has asked the club for a new left-back to give competition to regular Mario Rui.

Napoli pair back for Genk

Arkadiusz Milik and Allan are back in Napoli’s squad for their final Champions League group game against Racing Genk tomorrow.

The pair missed the 1-1 draw with Udinese on Saturday, but both have passed fitness tests to be once more at Carlo Ancelotti’s disposal.

On the other hand, Nikola Maksimovic has joined fellow defenders Faouzi Ghoulam and Lorenzo Tonelli on the treatment table with a quadriceps problem.

A win at the San Paolo on Tuesday night will seal Napoli’s place in the last 16 of the competition.

Ghoulam suffers injury setback

Napoli defender Faouzi Ghoulam has reportedly injured himself again and will not be available against Milan this weekend.

With Mario Rui in poor condition, the left-back position might be up for grabs for Sebastiano Luperto, as the Corriere dello Sport reports that Ghoulam suffered another setback yesterday.

The defender reassured the fans that the muscle injury he sustained before the international break was not serious, but the Algerian is still struggling and is reported to be missing from the squad to prepare for the Rossoneri match on Saturday.

Mertens to lead Napoli exodus?

Napoli are reportedly planning a mass exodus, which could start with Dries Mertens to Inter in January.

Napoli are in full-blown crisis mode after no wins in their last five games, exacerbated by the squad’s refusal to go on a punitive training camp.

With that in mind, Gazzetta dello Sport writes Mertens and Callejon will be the first to go.

Callejon should be China-bound, linking up with Marek Hamsik and Rafa Benitez at Dalian Yifang.

Ghoulam: 'Injury not serious'

Faouzi Ghoulam has assured Napoli fans his injury isn't serious and that it is just a muscular problem.

Ghoulam has missed Napoli's last two games with the setback, but he took to Algerian newspaper Le Buteur to rubbish the claim that Carlo Ancelotti was no longer counting on him.

"I have a muscle injury, but it is nothing to get worried about. I want to return to the national side, but first I must find consistency with Napoli."
