World Cup: Saudis sign off with a win

Saudi Arabia signed off their World Cup campaign with a win, thanks to Salem Al-Dawsari’s last-gasp goal against Egypt.

Both sides had lost their opening two fixtures, so were simply playing for pride in their final Group A match.

Egyptian goalkeeper Essam El Hadary became the oldest player ever to feature at the World Cup at the age of 45, while his side were looking to score their first goal from open play since the 1934 tournament.

CL: Real nightmare for Karius

Real Madrid won the Champions League for the third year running thanks to a Gareth Bale brace and comically awful Loris Karius performance for Liverpool.

Zinedine Zidane and his Merengues make history with a third consecutive Champions League triumph and used the exact same starting XI that beat Juventus 4-1 in Cardiff two years ago, benching Gareth Bale.

It was a very aggressive start in Kiev from Jurgen Klopp’s side, with a series of shots charged down, while Cristiano Ronaldo blasted just over from a tricky angle.

Madrid want €200m Salah?

Reports in Spain are linking Real Madrid with a €200m move for Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah, with a potential windfall for Roma if they included a sell-on clause.

The Egyptian has been in sensational form since joining the Reds last summer, with 42 goals and 13 assists in 48 club games so far this season.

According to AS, Los Merengues want to make a statement this summer, and could do so by signing Salah.

While Liverpool would demand around €200m, the move could be funded by selling players like Gareth Bale and Karim Benzema.

Salah: ‘Improved with Spalletti’

Liverpool star Mohamed Salah admits he improved under Luciano Spalletti at Roma “both tactically and defensively”.

The Giallorossi were known for their attacking verve, but the Egyptian feels it’s in other aspects that he improved while at the Stadio Olimpico.

“Every team I’ve played for has attacked, so it wasn’t really that strange,” Salah told FourFourTwo magazine.

Klopp admires Roma 'mentality'

Jurgen Klopp said Roma and Liverpool share “mentality and respect,” but they will heed the warning of Barcelona. “We know it’s possible.”

The first leg ended 5-2 for the Reds at Anfield, so the Giallorossi need a 3-0 win at home to reach the Final.

The British reporters at the Press conference repeatedly asked Klopp and midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum about the ultras attack that left Sean Cox in an induced coma ahead of the first leg match.

Roma Coach Eusebio Di Francesco appeals for fans to be on their best behaviour against Liverpool - “it must be a joy to come to the stadium tomorrow”.

Reds fan Sean Cox had to be placed into an induced coma after an alleged assault by two Italian fans ahead of the first leg, and there are fears of trouble ahead of the return.

“There are bad apples in all fanbases,” Di Francesco said in his Press conference ahead of the Champions League return leg.

The Giallorossi need a 3-0 or 4-1 win in the Champions League second leg tomorrow night, having lost 5-2 at Anfield.

Their former player Salah ripped them apart that night, and Alisson is under no illusions about the quality of the Egyptian.

“He has innate talent and now he’s really confident in himself,” the goalkeeper told Gazzetta dello Sport.

Mane not swayed by the Olimpico

Sadio Mane is confident Liverpool won’t be affected by the atmosphere of Roma’s Stadio Olimpico. “No other stadiums will impress us after Anfield.”

The first leg of the Champions League semi-final ended 5-2 and the decider is in Rome on Wednesday evening.

The Giallorossi need a 3-0 win to progress, but that was also the situation they found themselves in when knocking Barcelona out in the quarter-finals.
