Chiellini 'ready before end of season'

Giorgio Chiellini “will be back on the pitch between January and March,” assured the Juventus captain’s agent, and ready for Euro 2020.

The 35-year-old defender was ruled out for at least six months by a torn anterior cruciate ligament at the end of August.

“His recovery is progressing positively and the man has this magnetic positivity,” Davide Lippi told TMW Radio.

“It’s incredible. He works so hard every day and when I call him up, he’s the one who reassures me. He is making giant leaps forward.

The problem of conceding from dead ball situations is not new at Juventus, nor is it solely a tactical issue, explains Elio Salerno.

Chiellini to be non-playing captain

Giorgio Chiellini will reportedly continue to sit on the Juventus bench as a non-playing captain throughout his six-month lay-off.

The 35-year-old defender tore his anterior cruciate ligament during training and had surgery in Innsbruck this week.

He is not expected back on the field for at least six months, but that doesn’t mean Juve won’t be able to count on his support or leadership qualities.

Italy take the Mkhi in Armenia

The Azzurri did just about enough to grind out a win over 10-man Armenia, but it was a reality check for Giancarlo Rinaldi.

It wasn’t pretty nor very much deserved, that’s for sure. If grinding out wins in uninspiring fashion is a symptom of coming down with a winning mentality, then this might be just what the Azzurri team doctor ordered. For the rest of us, enthused by some of the nice football seen in previous outings, a flattering triumph over Armenia felt about as good as chugging down your cough medicine when you are six years old.
