De Ligt: 'Trying to learn from Juve'

Matthijs de Ligt is ‘trying to learn’ from Juventus teammates Leonardo Bonucci and Giorgio Chiellini, but reveals he didn’t want to be a defender at first.

The 20-year-old centre-back came through the legendary Ajax academy and earned himself a €85m transfer to Turin last summer.

“It is important to know for yourself if you’re mentally right; if you’re ready, nobody can stop you,” he told Champions Journal.

Chiellini 'to become Juve director'

Giorgio Chiellini has reportedly agreed to play on for Juventus until 2021 before becoming a club director.

Chiellini’s contract expires in June, but Tuttosport claims an agreement is in place for the defender to extend his deal by a further year.

As per the publication, the coronavirus lockdown prevented the 36-year-old from putting pen to paper.

However, it is claimed he will retire at the end of next season prior to moving into an upstairs role for Juve.

He received a master’s degree in Business Administration in April 2017.

Juve to resume with Chiellini

Juventus captain Giorgio Chiellini is expected to be fully recovered and return to lead the Bianconeri out of the gates when football resumes.

Il Corriere dello Sport has pointed out that Chiellini’s contract renewal until June 2022 is waiting for him when the squad returns to training and the Bianconeri are looking to resume the season with their captain back among the ranks.

Chiellini injured himself in the first match of the season and was briefly reintroduced before football was suspended due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Stam: 'Fundamental De Ligt stays at Juve'

Jaap Stam believes it is “fundamental that Matthijs de Ligt stays at Juventus for many years” for his career, growth process and learning "the art of defending."

Despite initial difficulties, De Ligt has always laughed off speculation linking him with Barcelona, Real Madrid or Manchester United under a year after his €85m move from Ajax.

“My opinion of his first few months in Serie A is positive,” former Milan and Lazio defender Stam told TuttoJuve.com.

Cuadrado: 'Juve players set example'

Juan Cuadrado confirms Giorgio Chiellini orchestrated Juventus players accepting a salary reduction due to the COVID-19 pandemic. “We hope that we set the example for others.”

The Bianconeri were the first squad in Italy to accept a voluntary pay cut during the coronavirus lockdown, but negotiations elsewhere have hit problems.

“Captain Chiellini spoke to the club, then told all of us via a Whatsapp group what was being discussed,” Cuadrado revealed on Sky Sport Italia.

Former Palermo President Maurizio Zamparini famously fired numerous coaches, but director of sport Rino Foschi reveals the fiery patron “slapped me” during an argument.

The Sicilians eventually went bankrupt and have been reborn under new owners in Serie D, but Zamparini’s reign will live on in infamy, as between Palermo and previous club Venezia, he issued 54 dismissals in under 40 years.

Kumbulla: 'Chiellini my idol'

Verona defender Marash Kumbulla says Giorgio Chiellini is his idol and that he is ‘proud’ of the help Albania has given to Italy during the COVID-19 outbreak.

Dybala: 'Some didn't want Juve pay cut'
