Chiellini: 'How to neutralise Higuain'

Giorgio Chiellini wants Juventus to “turn the tide” of Supercoppa defeats against Milan and knows how to neutralise Gonzalo Higuain.

It kicks off in Jeddah on Wednesday at 17.30 GMT.

Although Juve have won their last six meetings with Milan in all competition, they lost on penalties in the December 2016 Supercoppa in Doha.

“We have changed a great deal in two years, but it is certainly a trophy we care about and want to win,” said Chiellini in his Press conference.

Chiellini 'didn't believe CR7 signing'

Giorgio Chiellini admits ‘I didn’t believe’ Cristiano Ronaldo would join Juventus at first but believes his arrival has let them ‘target’ the Champions League.

Ronaldo’s transfer to Juve from Real Madrid shook the football world last summer, and Chiellini confessed he was similarly taken aback by the deal.

“Cristiano scored many, many, many times against us and he broke my dreams many times - in Cardiff, in Madrid, in Turin,” the defender told BBC Sport.

Buffon: ‘Italy don’t need me’

Gianluigi Buffon appears to rule out a return to the Italy squad - “I’ve spoken to Roberto Mancini, they don’t need me”.

The Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper hasn’t played for the Azzurri since the friendlies during Luigi Di Biagio’s caretaker reign, but some have suggested he could return for Euro 2020.

“I spoke with Mancio, they don’t need me,” Buffon told Corriere della Sera.

Chiellini: 'Juve went too deep'

Giorgio Chiellini was far from happy with a 1-0 Juventus win over Roma. “We risk throwing it away like we did against Manchester United.”

Mario Mandzukic scored the only goal with a header, while Robin Olsen performed several great saves on Cristiano Ronaldo, but the result remained open until the final whistle.

Chiellini: ‘The derby is different’

Giorgio Chiellini says matches between Juventus and Torino “are not like the others”, and explains what he learned from previous captains.

The two sides meet in the Derby della Mole on Saturday night, and the centre-back sat down with DAZN to preview the match.

“Torino have improved a lot,” Chiellini warned.

“They’re physical and they’re good on the counter-attack. With [Walter] Mazzarri they’ve made an important upgrade, they can aim for Europe and they can certainly cause us problems.

Chiellini: ‘Icardi the toughest opponent’

Juventus captain Giorgio Chiellini names Mauro Icardi of Inter as his toughest opponent - other than teammate Cristiano Ronaldo.

The centre-back was imperious against Icardi in the Derby d’Italia last Friday, but is full of respect for the Argentine.

“In my opinion, Icardi is the second best striker in the penalty box who I’ve ever marked,” Chiellini told DAZN.

Allegri: ‘Ronaldo yes, Chiellini no’

Juventus Coach Massimiliano Allegri reveals Cristiano Ronaldo will start against Young Boys, but Giorgio Chiellini won’t play on the synthetic surface.

The Bianconeri need a win in Switzerland tomorrow to be sure of first place in their Champions League group, and the tactician won’t be making wholesale changes.

“It’s more important than Inter because we’re playing for first place, and more difficult because we’re playing a team who have created a lot at home,” Allegri warned in his pre-match Press conference.

Only one Italian in UEFA team

Juventus defender Giorgio Chiellini is the only Italian included in UEFA’s 50 candidates for its Team of the Year.

Chiellini’s inclusion comes after a 2018 that saw him win another domestic double with Juve and become their captain after Gianluigi Buffon’s exit.

He is joined from the Old Lady by Miralem Pjanic, Paulo Dybala and Cristiano Ronaldo, the latter of whom fired Real Madrid to a third consecutive Champions League last season.

A tale of two Croats

Marcelo Brozovic was the best player on the pitch in the Derby d’Italia, writes Gaby McKay, but, as ever, it was Mario Mandzukic who decided the big game.

Even with Mauro Icardi and Cristiano Ronaldo on the pitch, somehow you always knew it had to be him. He may not be flashy or entertaining, but Mario Mandzukic always comes up trumps in the big matches.
