Montolivo heading to Monza?

Milan midfielder Riccardo Montolivo is reportedly considering a move to Silvio Berlusconi’s new club Monza in Serie C.

He was the captain of the Rossoneri not so long ago, but the 33-year-old has been frozen out by Coach Gennaro Gattuso.

The 33-year-old was on the market this summer, but refused to leave, as his wife is expecting a baby.

As a result, Montolivo was dumped to the outskirts of the squad and in a midweek friendly during international duty was even made to play with the Primavera youth team rather than the remaining senior players.

‘Montolivo much better than Jorginho’

Riccardo Montolivo’s agent claims the Milan outcast is a ‘much better’ fit in Italy’s midfield than Jorginho.

Montolivo is unlikely to stay at Milan beyond next summer, when his contract expires, while he is not thought to be in Gennaro Gattuso’s plans for the Rossoneri.

Nonetheless, Giovanni Branchini told Corriere dello Sport: “If you must play this Jorginho in the national team then I say that my Montolivo, who has scandalously been ousted, is much better.”

Milan cut Conti and Strinic

Milan have left injured Andrea Conti and Ivan Strinic out of the squad list for the Europa League group stage, but include Riccardo Montolivo.

The Rossoneri are in the same group as Real Betis, Olympiacos and Dudelange.

Right-back Conti joined the club from Atalanta for €24m in July 2017, but has made only five competitive appearances for the club.

He tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his knee in September 2017 and required another operation in April 2018.

Montolivo refusing to leave Milan

Milan are unable to bring in a new midfielder because Riccardo Montolivo is refusing to leave, it’s reported.

The 33-year-old has been told in no uncertain terms that he is not part of the Coach Gennaro Gattuso’s plans.

He even had the captain’s armband taken from him by new arrival Leonardo Bonucci last season and this summer has been urged to move elsewhere, but he rejected every single offer.

The pre-season friendly will kick off on Saturday evening in Spain at 20.00 UK time.

Coach Gennaro Gattuso must do without injured Pepe Reina, Ivan Strinic and Ignazio Abate.

However, also absent from the list of players are Andre Silva and Montolivo.

Montolivo to be released?

Riccardo Montolivo could be released by Milan, but it’s claimed he wasn’t informed until the last minute that he wouldn’t be going to the U.S.A.

The Rossoneri announced their squad for the pre-season tour yesterday, and the Italian international was excluded for technical reasons.

Essentially that means that Coach Gennaro Gattuso and the club hierarchy are happy to let him leave the club, and the final year of his contract could be terminated.

Milan drop seven for US tour

Milan have called up Pepe Reina, Leonardo Bonucci, Alen Halilovic, Andrea Bertolacci and Nikola Kalinic for their US tour, but seven are dropped.

Reina and Halilovic travel after their recent arrivals from Napoli and Hamburg respectively, as do Bonucci, Bertolacci and Kalinic, despite reports that the trio are close to leaving Milan.

However, Gustavo Gomez, Riccardo Montolivo, Carlos Bacca and goalkeeper Gabriel seem to already be on their way out after they were overlooked.

Montolivo to Werder Bremen?

Werder Bremen are reportedly considering a swoop for Milan midfielder Riccardo Montolivo.

According to Fussballeck, Montolivo is a ‘strong’ candidate to replace Borussia Dortmund-bound Thomas Delaney in Bremen’s midfield.

Although the former Italy international has a year left on his Milan contract, reports suggest he could part with the Rossoneri as early as this summer.

The 33-year-old started just 12 Serie A games last season and also has a German mother.

Montolivo to terminate Milan deal?

It is reported that Riccardo Montolivo is in talks to terminate his contract with Milan a year early.

The 33-year-old’s deal with the Rossoneri runs until the summer of 2019, but it appears he may depart the club sooner.

The former Fiorentina man made only 26 appearances in all competitions this season, with just 12 starts in Serie A.

With the Diavolo expected to strengthen further during this summer’s transfer window, it appears Montolivo will slip still further down Coach Rino Gattuso’s pecking order.

Montolivo: ‘Didn’t expect Milan problems’

Milan midfielder Riccardo Montolivo admits “nobody expected so many problems” at the start of the season.

The Rossoneri spent big in the summer to sign the likes of Lucas Biglia, Leonardo Bonucci and Nikola Kalinic, but they’re currently in the bottom half of Serie A, 12 points from a Champions League place.

“Nobody expected so many problems,” Montolivo confessed, speaking to Sky.

“That’s why it was difficult to find balance, we’re working to get out of this complicated period.
