Six teams are represented in Opta’s best XI in Serie A 2019-20, with Milan left-back Theo Hernandez and Napoli midfielder Fabian Ruiz the only two outside the teams among the top four.

Juventus are the most represented club through their four players in the 4-2-3-1 formation based on Opta’s statistics during the first 26 rounds of Serie A 2019-20.

Cristiano Ronaldo is unsurprisingly on the side after his 21 goals in 22 games this term and Wojciech Szczesny is between the sticks in the top 11 this term.

Sarri can learn from Allegri

Maurizio Sarri has been hesitant to use Paulo Dybala, Gonzalo Higuain and Cristiano Ronaldo together, but Emmet Gates thinks he can learn from Max Allegri.

It was interesting to hear former Juventus coach Max Allegri’s comments concerning the obsessive nature with tactics in his native country. Allegri gave an extremely frank interview in which he eschewed the basic ideas of tactics and footballing philosophies. For him, you simply get your best players in their finest physical and mental condition, and put them out on to the field to win. Nothing more, nothing less.

Two-match bans for pair

Genoa forward Goran Pandev and Napoli defender Nikola Maksimovic have been hit with two-match bans in today’s Giudice Sportivo verdict.

Pandev is punished for not only receiving a red card during the 2-2 draw with Lecce but also insulting the referee, which in turn saw him fined €12,000.

He will therefore miss Genoa’s final two games of 2019, including the Derby della Lanterna against Sampdoria.

Maksimovic, meanwhile, has avoided a fine but won’t be available against Parma or Sassuolo after being sent off from the bench.
