Plus ca change for Juve

Juventus fans and Maurizio Sarri will fear very little has realistically changed since the first leg defeat to Lyon, writes Kaustubh Pandey.

After the 1-0 loss to Lyon in the first leg of the Round of 16 of the Champions League, Maurizio Sarri seemed frustrated that his Juventus team couldn’t move the ball much quicker in midfield. That indeed was true, as the Bianconeri looked drab and rusty in the heart of the park and Lyon were happy to restrict them to playing harmless sideways passes for a majority of the game. A Lucas Tousart goal was enough to hand the French side a 1-0 victory.

Sarri: 'Almost winning is meaningless'

Maurizio Sarri reiterates that ‘almost’ securing the ninth consecutive Serie A title for Juventus is ‘meaningless’ and tries to focus on the trip to Udinese.

It kicks off on Thursday at 18.30 UK time (17.30 GMT), click here for a match preview.

The Bianconeri are almost there for the Scudetto, as if Inter don’t beat Fiorentina tonight, they can mathematically clinch the title with a win in Udine.

Tacchinardi: 'Juve letting Sarri down'

Former Juventus midfielder Alessio Tacchinardi warns the current squad are ‘playing with fire’ and letting Maurizio Sarri down. ‘Aaron Ramsey and Adrien Rabiot have to wake up.’

The Bianconeri picked up just two points from the last three rounds, scraping draws with Atalanta and Sassuolo, while beaten by Milan despite going 2-0 up.

“I thought it was Sarri asking them to do this, but now I’ve become convinced the players just aren’t delivering what he wants,” Tacchinardi told La Gazzetta dello Sport.

Paratici: 'Rabiot, Berna, Pjanic...'

Fabio Paratici calls Adrien Rabiot the ‘future’ of Juventus, tips Federico Bernardeschi for greatness and ‘will see what happens’ with Miralem Pjanic.

Everton favourites for Rabiot

Everton are the current favourites for Juventus midfielder Adrien Rabiot, according to Italian sources, ahead of Manchester United.

The former Paris Saint-Germain star joined Juve as a free agent last summer, but has struggled to get any regular playing time.

His delay in returning to Italy after the lockdown was lifted last month also irritated the club.

A sale in order to raise funds is likely, with Tuttosport pointing to Everton as his probable destination, where he’ll get to work with Carlo Ancelotti.

Man Utd unconvinced by Rabiot-Pogba deal

According to Italian reports, Manchester United are not eager to have Adrien Rabiot included as a €30m portion of the Juventus bid for Paul Pogba.

The Bianconeri are using their own players as part-exchanges to bring down the cost of transfer fees in the post-pandemic age.

Rabiot has struggled for playing time since arriving as a free agent from PSG last summer, so is the ideal candidate to be swapped out.

Manchester United have shown interest in the Frenchman before and had been in a bidding war with Juve for his signature last year.

Juventus trio in Pogba deal?

Manchester United are content to accept Aaron Ramsey, Adrien Rabiot or Douglas Costa as part of an exchange taking Paul Pogba to Juventus, it’s reported.

According to Rai Sport reporter Paolo Paganini, the negotiations are continuing behind the scenes in Monaco.

Following the coronavirus pandemic and the lockdown, all clubs are going to focus more on exchanges than expensive transfer fees.

If Juve are to bring Pogba back to Turin, it’ll require several players as part of the deal, even if his €110m price-tag has dropped.

Arsenal and Everton talks for Rabiot

The former Paris Saint-Germain talent arrived as a free agent last summer, but has made very little significant impact on Maurizio Sarri’s squad.

His delay in returning to Turin after the lockdown also irritated the club, who put him on the market with the hopes of creating a strong profit from his sale for around €15-20m.
