Torino held by Pro Patria

Simone Zaza’s goal was not enough, as Torino were held to a disappointing pre-season friendly draw by Pro Patria.

The striker found the net after 30 minutes, but Colombo secured an equaliser in the second half.

New coach Marco Giampaolo is taking some time to get his tactics drilled into the players, even those who he has worked with before.

Alex Berenguer had the opportunity to win the game for the Granata, but missed a penalty.

Miha and Ranieri handed one-match suspensions

Serie A’s Disciplinary Commission has suspended both Bologna coach Sinisa Mihajlovic and Sampdoria tactician Claudio Ranieri, whilst Roma must cope without duo Bryan Cristante and Henrikh Mkhitaryan against Brescia.

The Giudice Sportivo gave their verdict after Wednesday’s matches and both Cristante and Mkhitaryan must serve one game bans after the Giallorossi’s 2-1 win over Parma.

Bologna defender Stefano Denswil picked up a yellow card against Sassuolo and must sit out the next game against Parma.

Torino transform their tactics

Torino are warming up for their Serie A comeback on June 20 against Parma, as Andrea Belotti and Simone Zaza bagged a brace each in a new 4-4-2 formation.

Coach Moreno Longo took over from sacked Walter Mazzarri at the start of February and lost all three matches in charge going into the lockdown.

He has taken the time to work on the tactics and shelved Mazzarri’s beloved three-man defence in favour of a 4-4-2.

The squad played out a test match between ranks today, with Belotti and Zaza forming a new partnership upfront, scoring two goals each.

Torino look at Joao Pedro

Torino are reportedly monitoring Joao Pedro’s situation at Cagliari, hoping to find a way to lure the Brazilian to Turin this summer.

The 28-year-old has impressed since the Rossoblu returned to Serie A and this year he stepped up in remarkable fashion in the absence of Leonardo Pavoletti.

In need of a goalscorer, Joao Pedro was moved further up the pitch to help fill the void and has contributed 16 goals in Serie A, helping the Casteddu to their best start since the Scudetto winners in 1969-70.

Longo: 'Torino lack mentality'

Moreno Longo admits Torino made too many mistakes against Napoli and a sixth loss on the bounce shows “we are lacking courage and the right mentality.”

The Granata suffered six consecutive Serie A defeats, a club record previously set in 1999-00 (the year of their relegation) and 2006-07.

Walter Mazzarri was in charge for half of those, but Longo becomes the first Torino coach to lose his opening three games since Lido Vieri in 1995-96.

Zaza turned down Inter move

According to Tuttosport, it was Simone Zaza who turned down a six-month loan move from Torino to Inter.

The Nerazzurri had originally wanted Olivier Giroud from Chelsea, but were not prepared to pay €5m for a player who will be a free agent in June, while his current club couldn’t find a replacement in time either.

Sky Sport Italia, Sportitalia and more noted that on transfer deadline day, Inter made an approach to Torino for Zaza.

Report: Besiktas make Zaza bid

Turkish side Besiktas have seen a bid for Torino striker Simone Zaza rejected, claims Tuttosport.

Zaza has been at Torino since the summer of 2018, when he arrived on loan with obligation to buy from Valencia.

However, the former Juventus man has fallen down the pecking order under Walter Mazzarri.

Now, Tuttosport reports Besiktas - known to be in the market for a new No 9 - have tabled an offer of €10m for Zaza.

Report: Besiktas go for Pedro

Besiktas are reportedly keen on signing out-of-favour Fiorentina striker Pedro next month.

According to La Nazione, Besiktas have presented the “most serious” proposal for Pedro so far.

The Turkish club has struggled for goals this season, continuing to rely on veteran and ex-Lecce target Burak Yilmaz.

The 22-year-old Brazilian only joined Fiorentina from Fluminense in September for €11m.

However, he has managed just four substitute appearances for the Viola in Serie A.
