Montero on his sneaky Di Biagio punch

Former Juventus defender Paolo Montero looks back over his Bianconeri career, including a sneaky punch on Gigi Di Biagio and hiding from Fiorentina fans throwing rocks.

The Uruguayan centre-back is legendary for his 16 Serie A red cards, but freely admits it could’ve been even worse during an Inter-Juventus clash in 2000.

“On a previous corner, Di Biagio had caught me and practically split my lip open,” Montero told Juventibus.

Di Biagio: 'Parma have weaknesses'

Di Biagio: 'SPAL could not have done more'

SPAL coach Gigi Di Biagio “could not have asked for more” from his squad after a 2-1 home defeat to Juventus. “This team has not given up hope.”

The Spallini have lost five Serie A games in a row, including both of Di Biagio’s matches since replacing Leonardo Semplici.

“I congratulate my lads, as they did everything I asked, which was courage, hard work, passing channels,” Di Biagio told Sky Sport Italia.

Di Biagio: 'SPAL safety not crazy'

Gigi Di Biagio maintains SPAL “deserved more” from their loss to Lecce, but hasn’t lost hope. “Talking about safety might seem crazy, but I’ve seen crazy things.”

This was the former Italy Under-21 coach’s first ever Serie A game as a tactician, replacing sacked Leonardo Semplici on the bench.

Although Andrea Petagna had equalised at the dawn of the second half, Zan Majer sealed the 2-1 Lecce victory after a Marco Mancosu penalty.

Di Biagio: 'SPAL changes made'

New SPAL coach Luigi Di Biagio makes his debut this weekend against Lecce, and states that he has already made some alterations to the side.

Di Biagio was drafted in this week as a replacement for Leonardo Semplici, who was sacked after six years at the Ferrara-based club.

Official: SPAL hire Di Biagio

SPAL have officially announced that Luigi Di Biagio is the club’s new coach following the sacking of Leonardo Semplici.

Semplici, who had been with the club since 2014 and brought them up from Serie C to A, was given his marching orders yesterday after a poor run of results.

The club languish at the bottom of the table and have only won four games all season.

Now the club have announced that Di Biagio has officially accepted the role of coach.

Official: SPAL sack Semplici

SPAL have officially fired coach Leonardo Semplici, who took the club from Serie C to the top flight, and are expected to appoint Gigi Di Biagio.

“SPAL announce that first team coach Leonardo Semplici has been removed from his post,” read a statement.

“The club thanks Mister Semplici and his staff for the work done and results achieved over the years.”

Report: Di Biagio new SPAL coach

SPAL have reportedly sacked Leonardo Semplici and agreed a deal with former Italy Under-21 coach Gigi Di Biagio.

According to Sky Sport Italia, Semplici has already been informed of the dismissal and Di Biagio will sign the contract on Monday morning.

The decision was made after a 2-1 home defeat to Sassuolo, which left the club from Ferrara propping up the Serie A table with 15 points from 23 rounds.

They have won only four matches, drawn three and lost 16.

SPAL close to sacking Semplici

SPAL are on the verge of sacking Leonardo Semplici and installing Luigi Di Biagio as coach, according to a report.

The Ferrara-based outfit lost earlier today against Sassuolo, their sixth consecutive defeat in Serie A.

They are languishing at the bottom of the table and are seven points adrift of safety.

Tuttomercatoweb.com report that SPAL are close to sacking coach Semplici, and are expected to hire Di Biagio as boss for the remainder of the season.
