Napoli consider Sabaly

Napoli are reportedly considering Bordeaux’s Youssouf Sabaly as a reinforcement at full-back.

The Partenopei are looking for a defender who can play on either side of the defence, as Christian Maggio has left and left-back Faouzi Ghoulam struggled with injury last season.

Sabaly, a Senegal teammate of Kalidou Koulibaly’s, played at left-back at the World Cup, but is better known as a right-back in France.

According to Sky Italia contact is underway to bring the defender to Naples, with Girondins asking for around €12m.

World Cup: Honda stalls Senegal

It remains very tight in Group H, as Japan fought back twice to hold Senegal, including a late equaliser from ex-Milan star Keisuke Honda.

This was a surprising top of the table showdown, as Japan beat 10-man Colombia and Senegal swept Poland aside in their opener. There were several Serie A faces on show, from Napoli defender Kalidou Koulibaly and Torino striker Mbaye Niang to Inter full-back Yuto Nagatomo.

Senegal took the lead in bizarre fashion, as Eiji Kawashima punched a Youssouf Sabaly shot on to the knee of Sadio Mane and it ricocheted in from six yards.

‘Sarri needs time at Chelsea’

Kalidou Koulibaly expects ‘nice football’ from Chelsea under Maurizio Sarri but warns the former Napoli boss ‘needs time’ to implement his philosophy.

Sarri is increasingly likely to replace Antonio Conte as Chelsea’s Coach before the start of next season, and while Koulibaly is confident Napoli ‘can win something’ under Carlo Ancelotti, he expressed his ‘disappointment’ at the 58-year-old moving on.

WC Player Profile: Kalidou Koulibaly

A stalwart in defence for Napoli, Kalidou Koulibaly will be expected to be equally as reliable for Senegal in Russia, writes Michelle Osei Bonsu.

The centre-back has been a rock for the Partenopei in Serie A this season and is a leader for his national team too.

Senegal are in a very balanced group with Poland - who they face this evening - Colombia and Japan.

That means K2 will be marking the likes of Robert Lewandowski, James Rodriguez, Radamel Falcao and his club teammate Arkadiusz Milik.

Napoli want Chelsea pledge for Sarri

Maurizio Sarri will be allowed to join Chelsea if they sign a ‘gentlemen’s agreement’ not to activate Napoli release clauses, claim Sportitalia.

Transfer guru Alfredo Pedullà has been saying for some time that Sarri will be the new Chelsea Coach, even when negotiations seemed to have broken down definitively.

He insists the breakthrough will come not by paying €8m or even €4.5m, as the release clause in his contract has now expired.

Sarri has Chelsea shopping list

Italian sources are confident Maurizio Sarri will be at Chelsea next week, eager to bring Piotr Zielinski, Gonzalo Higuain, Elseid Hysaj and Kalidou Koulibaly with him.

The Coach is still under contract with Napoli, even if he was fired to make way for Carlo Ancelotti, as the deal must be terminated by mutual consent under Italian rules.

Although the €8m release clause has expired, President Aurelio De Laurentiis is still demanding a similar payment to release the highly-respected tactician.
